Mother’s Day Card Sayings

Erich Fromm, Mother's Day Poems, Old Sayings

Sometimes, we struggle to find the right words to express our love and appreciation to the most important woman of our life: our ever-sacrificing and understanding mother. On Mother’s Day, draw inspiration from these old sayings that revolve around the dedication of mothers. These quotations never grow old, mainly because they can’t be any truer.

1. Your arms were always open when I needed a hug. Your heart understood when I needed a friend. Your gentle eyes were stern when I needed a lesson. Your strength and love has guided me and gave me wings to fly. ~Sarah Malin
A mother is the first one who sees her children’s potentials, and she makes it her mission to encourage them, help them realize their dreams and not let them stray. Most importantly, she will still be there when they stumble and fall, helping them get back up on their feet. What would we do without mothers?

2. Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs… since the payment is pure love. ~Mildred B. Vermont
True. Mothers have the hardest, most demanding jobs in the world, but in exchange, they will always have their child’s devotion. That’s why as children, the least we could do is let our moms know how much we love and appreciate them. That’s their only compensation for everything they’ve done and sacrificed for us, and as a mother myself, that’s more enough.

3. The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~Rajneesh
As a new mom, this is my favorite quote here. I can perfectly relate. I discovered a whole new me when I became a mother, I explored facets of my personality I knew nothing about. That I can be extremely nurturing, overly patient, and unconditionally loving. I am now given a role that is life-altering and full of purpose: MOTHER.

4. A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest.~Irish Proverb
From a grown-up son, this message will warm any mom’s heart. A mother sometimes feel threatened when her son finds his future wife, thinking she will be replaced as the main woman of her son’s life. Assure her that her presence in your life is always valued, that her opinion always counts, and no matter who comes in and out of your life, your bond will remain strong and permanent.

5. My mom is a never-ending song in my heart of comfort, happiness, and being. I may sometimes forget the words but I always remember the tune. ~Graycie Harmon
We associate mothers will anything familiar and comfortable: home-cooked meals, neatly folded towels, feelings of calm and contentment. Even as adults, we’ll never forget that special feeling of being secured and cared for that we aspire for it when we build families of our own.

6. A mother understands what a child does not say. ~ Jewish proverb
I am very thankful my mother is around, because I’m not a verbal person and my mom is there to reach out first when something’s bothering me. She can always tel, and I hide emotions pretty well. That’s how powerful maternal instincts are. You can always count on your mother to know exactly what’s going on, even if you refuse to share it.

7. Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.~Unknown
Children need guidance during their early years. When the right time comes, mothers find it more difficult to let go then their children. Later on, the bond becomes more than just one of necessity, but one of fondness and of love. At this point, both refuse to let go of that deep emotional connection.

8. I love my mother as the trees love water and sunshine – she helps me grow, prosper, and reach great heights. ~Adabella Radici
A mother is comparable to human’s basic needs. It’s hard to imagine life without her. Truly, no words can stress enough how important the role of a mother is to a child.

9. A father may turn his back on his child, brothers and sisters may become inveterate enemies, husbands may desert their wives, wives their husbands. But a mother’s love endures through all. ~Washington Irving
We’ve heard this before. No love is stronger than that of a mother’s and that’s one fact of life. Those who got to experience that great love from a mother should consider themselves very fortunate.

10. Mother’s love is peace. It need not be acquired, it need not be deserved. ~Erich Fromm
Yes, we didn’t work for our mother’s love since it’s there from the very beginning, and some of us prove to be undeserving of that pure forgiving love, but that’s what makes a mother’s love a miracle of life. It doesn’t judge, it doesn’t demand, it doesn’t condemn. It is peace, indeed.

Happy Mother’s Day to mothers everywhere!
