Different Recipes and Methods for Preparing Chicken Wings

Chicken Wings, Cooking Chicken, Soy Sauce

Chicken wings are one of my favorite foods. They are small enough to be served as appetizers or as party food and yet can be combined with other ingredients to be served as a main dish. When it comes to how you prepare your chicken wings, there are many methods you can use. If you are interested in cooking chicken wings for your next party or as a casual dinner, I have some delicious recipes and cooking tips to share with you.

Fried Chicken Wings

Fried Chicken is not the healthiest of foods but it sure is one of the tastiest. I always had a problem with my coating staying on my fried chicken. That is until I discovered a method for coating chicken wings that would stick.

To make a coating that sticks all you need is some flour mixed with salt and pepper. First dip the chicken wings in a shallow dish filled with milk and then dunk into the flour mixture. Place the coated chicken wings in a plastic container and let it sit in the fridge for approximately one hour. Once the chicken wings have sat in the fridge for an hour you can take them out and throw them in a bag filled with the remaining flour mixture. Seal the bag and toss the chicken wings around in the coating mixture. Fry the chicken wings using a deep fryer or a pan filled with preheated cooking oil until done and no longer pink.

Flour mixed with salt and pepper is really all you need to create a delicious coating for your chicken wings. However if you would like to spice it up a bit you can add different spices to suit your tastes. Some great options would be to add garlic and onion powders to your coating mixture.

Soy Sauce Wings

Growing up my Mom often made us Soy Sauce Chicken Wings. A soy sauce marinade can transform ordinary chicken wing drumettes into a delicious main course dinner dish. These chicken wings are easy to prepare and taste delicious.

Ingredients that you need for this delicious dish is as follows: 2 pkgs. Chicken Wing Drumettes (approximately two pounds), 1/2 Cup Soy Sauce, 1/4 Cup Water (to help cut down on the saltiness of the soy sauce, this ingredient is optional and can be adjusted to your tastes), 1 TBSP. Sugar, 3 Cloves of Garlic (Minced), Peeled and Chopped Carrots (approximately one inch slices), and Quartered Potatoes.

Begin by heating some oil in a deep skillet. Mix the Soy Sauce, Water, Sugar, and Garlic in a shallow dish. Roll chicken pieces in this mixture and place in your deep skillet to brown. After your chicken wings have browned add the vegetables into the same skillet. Pour remaining soy sauce mixture into the skillet and bring to a boil. After the mixture comes to a boil reduce the heat to medium low and cover with a lid. Cook until the chicken wings are no longer pink. This dish is best served with rice. If desired you can pour some of the soy sauce mixture over your rice as well.

Hot Wings

Spicy chicken wings, or hot wings, make great party food. Hot wings can be prepared in many different ways and can be seasoned using different marinades and sauces which make them versatile as well. When making hot wings you can either go by a recipe or create your own concoction just as long as you remember to add some of the spicy stuff.

One way to prepare spicy chicken wings, or hot wings, is to bake them in the oven. This method is an easy one and can be a great way to prepare chicken wings in the winter time. To bake your chicken wings you need to preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Prepare your chicken wings by separating at joints (unless you have bought drumettes) then rinsing them and patting them dry. Arrange the chicken wings on a foil lined baking pan and place in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes. Meanwhile, heat the hot sauce on the stove by mixing together butter and hot sauce (such as Frank’s or Tabasco sauce). You only need enough butter to help thin the sauce out or approximately 2 tablespoons of butter to 1/4 cup of hot sauce. After the chicken wings have baked for the 20-25 minutes you will need to brush them with the hot sauce and bake again for another 10 minutes.

Another way to prepare hot wings is to deep fry them. My favorite recipe for deep fried hot wings is this one which is a copycat recipe for Hooter’s Wings. Deep fried spicy chicken wings can be either prepared in a deep fryer or prepared in a deep skillet filled with cooking oil.

The last way to prepare hot wings is to grill them. Spicy chicken wings can be prepared on the grill using either a dried spice rub or a spicy marinade. Allow your chicken wings to marinade in the fridge for a few hours to overnight before grilling to achieve maximum flavor. After your hot wings have marinated, grill your spicy chicken wings over medium high heat on your grill until they are no longer pink. For a spice rub recipe click here.
