Lindsay Lohan: Portrait of a Meth Addict?

Lip Injections

A recent article from TMZ.com (See it here: http://www.tmz.com/2010/08/01/lindsay-lohan-rehab-methamphetamine-crystal-meth-drugs-opiates-bipolar-disorder) confirms the suspicions of many people familiar with the symptoms of methamphetamine addiction. Apparently, hillbilly crack has found its way to Hollyweird.

Many articles have speculated on the reasons for why Lindsay Lohan, who just recently turned 24, looks so haggard and aged. While it’s true that the lip injections make her look like an older person trying to look younger, there is the fact that her skin looks like it belongs to a much older woman. It lacks elasticity, which is particularly noticeable under her chin.

Nothing makes your skin age in the space of a few short years like methamphetamines, also known as crystal meth. It destroys the connective tissues. Before and after pictures of addicts are shocking.

Meth use also causes erratic, violent behavior. If you’ve been following the bizarre Lohan saga, you will surely recall that it was a 2007 DUI conviction that lead to her being placed on parole and fitted with a SCRAM bracelet.

Angered that her assistant had abruptly quit, she allegedly commandeered a car with three men in it and pursued her assistant and her assistant’s mother, terrifying them so that they were prompted to call 911. (Hear the 911 call here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIHTuNuKx2Y)

Meth users can become violent very quickly and if you suspect someone is using meth, you should try to avoid a direct confrontation with them, if at all possible.

Meth destroys the neural pathways in the brain that, essentially, make us human and separate us from the animals. Meth addicts lose their ability to appreciate beauty in life. People who take this drug become monsters who engage in violence and perverse sexual activities. As their need for more and more of the drug grows, they often become thieves. They die young, destroying not only their own lives, but the lives of everyone around them. One meth lab can literally destroy a neighborhood.

The list of prescription drugs Lindsay Lohan was taking upon her entrance to the Lynwood Women’s Correctional Facility on July 20, 2010 include one called Dilaudid. This is a pain killer that, according to some reports, she was taking for her dental pain.

One of the characteristics of methamphetamine use is tooth decay and, in particular, tooth abscesses. Tooth loss is common among meth addicts. Some addicts will incessantly grind their teeth. Even as they are talking to you, you can see their gums bleeding and their teeth are loose and rotting.

On a personal note, I have felt bad for Lindsay Lohan. I didn’t think she should have been put in jail. But, that was before this most recent revelation. While I don’t believe in the drug war or jail time for small amounts of marijuana or even cocaine, crystal meth is another story.

Where I live in the Ozark Mountain region, the “Meth Capitol” of the world, there are few lives that have not been affected by users of this drug. It is truly a scourge and it is everywhere in the surrounding hills. It is probably the underlying cause of most other crimes committed in this region. Characteristically, meth addicts poison and terrorize their innocent neighbors. There’s no “getting along” with meth addicts as they can become violent at any moment.

I have no sympathy for anyone who voluntarily ingests or injects this drug. There is simply no excuse for it, whatsoever. Furthermore, it is a really low-life drug without the glamorous edge cocaine had in the ’80s and ’90s. So, I cannot imagine what allure it holds. Just picture a toothless hillbilly with gaping sores all over his body rolling around on the ground like a dog. That’s the image of a meth user.

Meth is highly addictive. So, now it is clear why the judge gave Lindsay Lohan jail time and insisted that she go immediately into rehab. Even 24 hours is dangerous for a meth addict, if full recovery and rehabilitation is to be achieved.

In light of this new information, it is too bad for Lindsay that she wasn’t thrown in jail and forced into rehab sooner. It might have saved her face and her teeth!
