Keebler Deluxe Grahams Cookies

Keebler

When the six children enrolled in my childcare come home from school, the first thing they ask when they walk through the door is “what’s for snack?”

Serving snacks to six children five days a week can become challenging. Quite often one or two of the six won’t want or like what I am serving, while others are craving for it. Not the case with Keebler Fudge Shoppe Deluxe Grahams.

I purchased this 12.5 ounce package a couple weeks ago at my local Target store. They were on sale for only $2.00, and if you bought two packages of Keebler cookies, you received a third one free. That made the final price only $1.33! Hard to pass up a deal such as that.

These are a combination of a cookie and graham cracker, and the picture on the front of the bag shows a pretty accurate description, size wise. They are on the small side, measuring 1 7/8″ long and 1 3/8″ wide. They are about 1/4″ thick.

Although these are fudgecovered graham crackers, the back of the bag reads “We start with delicious cookies and add rich, chocolatey fudge to make every bite Uncommonly Good”.

I occasionally buy chocolate covered graham crackers at Walmart, the type that are square in shape, and I don’t really find much different between those and these Keebler’s. They are small, they taste like graham crackers covered in thick milk chocolate, but they don’t taste like they are covered with fudge. I would not say these are anywhere close to being as rich as I would expect when using the word “fudge” in the name.

The crunch of the graham crackers blends nicely with the sweetness of the chocolate coating, making these very satisfying.

One serving size is three pieces, and contains 140 calories and 7 grams of fat. 4.5 grams is saturated fat, which is a bit high, but on the bright side there arenone of the unhealthy trans fats. There is no cholesterol, 70 mg of sodium (again quite high for the size of these “cookies”), 18 grams of carbs, less than 1 gram of fiber, 10 grams of sugars, and 1 gram of protein. It also provides 2% of the daily allowance of iron. The package contains 13 servings, or about 30 cookie crackers.

Not many cookies on the market are healthy choices, and these are no different. My kids do love them, and it is something that they will always say yes to. I like them because I am watching my sugar and calorie intake, and I can enjoy one of these and am only consuming 47 calories. They curb my craving for something sweet, yet aren’t harmful to my diet in small amounts.

I have noticed that these cookies will melt and get chocolate on the kids hands, so a good hand washing is always in order after they have completed their snack.

Keebler Deluxe Grahams are definitely marketed toward children, the bag has a picture of a Keebler elf named Ernie. For kids who have food allergies, the bag does state that these contain wheat, milk and soy ingredients. I am pleased to see they didn’t have to put the warning on the package that these cookies were processed in machines that also process peanuts.

Peanuts are a big issue for some children, and they can actually go into antiphalyctic shock simply by smelling them. Our local elementary school takes this so seriously that they have a special table for children to eat their lunches if they have peanuts, peanut butter sandwiches, or been manufactured on machines that have processed peanuts
