Is Better ‘n Peanut Butter Really Better?

Natural Peanut Butter

I saw a new product on the shelf at the grocery store that I absolutely had to try. The name of it is Better ‘n Peanut Butter. What? What could possibly be better than peanut butter? Not this I’m afraid.

In theory, this was a great idea. It only has 100 calories and 2.5 grams of fat compared to regular peanut butter’s 200 calories and 17 grams of fat for the same 2 tablespoon serving size. It is made from peanuts – de-fatted peanut flour and peanuts. Then it gets weird: tapioca syrup and cane juice. I still had to try it. The flavor was not awful. It was tolerable. I just expected more because the name suggests it is going to deliver more. This is more like “not quite peanut butter”. Definitely not Better ‘n Peanut Butter. The consistency is way off in this. It does not spread well at all.

If you are die hard about fat and calorie restriction in your diet go out and try this. I would recommend cutting back somewhere else and keeping regular peanut butter in the pantry. Buy natural peanut butter. No guilt in that, but plenty of real peanut butter taste.
