Ideas for Fall Wedding Themes

Fall Wedding Decorations, Wedding Themes

Fall is right around the corner and you might be planning a fall wedding. If you’re looking for ideas for fall wedding themes, here are a few to get you started.

Fall Wedding Themes: Harvest

Most people think of harvest when they think of fall, so why not incorporate a harvest theme into a fall wedding?

Use corn shocks, pumpkins, artificial leaves, indian corn and fall mums for decorations. Pumpkins of varying sizes can be used whole, or carve them (using heart shapes of course) and put flameless candles in them for decorative effects. Incorporate bright red apples into the theme for a touch of color, an enticing scent and an addition to the fall harvest wedding theme.

Choose the rich colors of fall: orange, red, brown and yellow.

Use canning jars as decorations. Set the jars on reception tables with candles in them for a nice, harvest touch. You can also fill jars with popcorn, sunflower seeds, grains or other harvest items, tighten a lid into place then tie ribbon or raffia around the lid. Set these jars around for decorations. Canning jars can also be used as drinking glasses.

For a whimsical touch, create bridal party scarecrows for decorations. The harvest fall wedding theme could be casual (by using straw bales and scarecrows for decorations) – encouraging guests to dress down for the occasion, or spiffed up to be a classy event.

Artificial leaf garlands can be bought inexpensively at craft stores. Wind them around pillars and railings and drape them on tables. Use raffia (also available at craft stores) to make bows and decorative accents for tables, chairs, pews, doors, etc.

Fall Wedding Themes: Twilight of Sunset

Since fall brings to mind the winding down of the year, how about a twilight or sunset theme for a fall wedding?

Sunset or twilight colors of blue, purple, red, orange, yellow and pink in any combination and shades can be used. If you prefer to go with only one color, choose a favorite then use varying shades to mimic the shades you would see in the twilight sky.

Use white Christmas lights and outdoor solar lights to give the feel of the sun going down and the moon and stars coming out. Another option would be to use oil lamps on reception tables for a cozy effect.

Decorate with stars and hearts by sprinkling shaped foil confetti on reception tables.

Fall Wedding Themes: Forest

Take your cues from nature for this fall forest wedding theme. Use natural materials such as twigs, moss, stones, etc. for decorations.

Choose muted colors that would be found in a dappled forest – browns and greens. Use an ivory or cream color sparingly to lighten the decorations and overall theme.

Create “trees” as decorations by collecting fallen limbs from your yard or a wooded area. Paint or coat your trees with clear spray paint or a dark brown color of spray paint. Drape the trees with white Christmas lights or with purchased Spanish moss (available from craft stores) or both. Secure the trees in weighted flower pots.

Use the same principal on a smaller scale to create centerpieces.

This theme and all components of it should have a natural, earthy feel.

For inspiration, take a walk in the woods. Most wooded areas have shade-loving flowers present that offer spots of color. Borrow from those and re-create those spots of color in this fall wedding theme.

Check your local dollar store, craft store or garden center for small, decorative rocks to scatter on tables. Look for rocks that have carved words in them (such as love, faith, joy, etc). Place those rocks on guest tables and use them as guest favors.

These are just a few ideas to get you started. Choose one that suits your needs and sense of style and run with it – creating your own, personalized fall wedding.
