Ideas for Decorating a Bathroom in a Tropical Island Theme

Bath Towels, Decorate Bathroom, Fighting Fish, Siamese Fighting Fish

Decorating a bathroom in a specific theme is fun, and the possibilities are only limited by the imagination. Many people choose a nautical design since bathrooms are associated with water, but I prefer something a little more unique. I am currently decorating my new upstairs bath in a tropical island theme, and I am making plans for wall decor, accessories and more. I have some of the items on hand, and others I am buying online. I want the design of the bathroom to be completely unique, and shopping obscure stores will insure that my bathroom is one of a kind.

Paint the Walls in Light Tropical Island Blue or Lush Foliage Green

The walls in my new bathroom were bright blue. It was far too bright for my preference, even when decorating in a tropical island theme. Bright colors are fine in certain settings, but a bathroom is usually too small for a large dose of a bold, bright hue. Blue is one of my favorite hues, but I wanted to use something unexpected. I painted the bathroom light tropical green instead. A tropical island includes green foliage, and the light emerald hue was the ideal color for the bathroom.

Consider Decorating with a Unique Metal Wall Sculpture

Angelfish, starfish and other forms of sea life are popular when decorating in a tropical island theme, but I wanted something really unique. A Siamese fighting fish is a freshwater creature with tropical flair. I found a beautiful metal wall sculpture of a Siamese fighting fish. It has a gorgeous long tail and fins, and I plan on decorating a bare wall with the art. It will add unique decorating appeal to my tropical island bathroom. I have a blue Siamese fighting fish in a small tank, and I plan on keeping it in the bathroom to add realism to the theme of the space.

Use Beach Towels Instead of Bath Towels

When decorating a bathroom in a tropical island theme, use beach towels instead of bath towels. Choose tropical island colors and patterns, and do not be afraid to go with something bright. The towels will beautifully add to the decorating theme of the bathroom. Best of all, beach towels are typically cheaper than bath towels, and they are usually much larger. They can be hung on a coat tree that has been embellished with faux palm branches instead of a towel bar.

Decorating with Sand and Shells

A collection of seashells was my inspiration for the decorating theme of the bathroom. I wanted to use the shells in a decorative way rather than keeping them tucked away in a drawer. I arranged them in a tall clear glass vessel with a layer of natural sand in the bottom. When displayed in clear glass. the colors, shapes and beautiful patterns are visible.

I also plan on decorating the frame of the wooden medicine cabinet with sand and seashells. The article entitled Ways to Decorate a Bathroom with Shells provides instructions on how to do it. It also provides other ideas on decorating with shells. They would also coordinate beautifully with a unique tropical island theme.
