How to Use Water Candles for Weddings

Artificial Snow, Winter Wedding Invitations

As the wedding favors, catering and attire is chosen; flowers are the next step for the wedding event. Although flowers have been the traditional choice for table arrangements and decorations candles are another alternative to this. Tall, square and round candles are just few styles that can be found in retailers and specialty stores. Though these are nice choices for wedding décor water candles are the rising trend and adorn the table nicely.

Water candles create the illusion of a flame floating on water. Water is added to the container with a ½ inch of vegetable oil added to it. The vegetable oil floats to the top where the candle device (a special wick on a plastic disc) is placed. These candles have an excellent burn time of 800+ hours so there is no need to worry about them burning down during the ceremony. By using water candles many themes can be used to create beautiful wedding candles and here are some suggestions.

If the beach scene is the theme of your wedding place a floating candle in a bubble ball vase candle holder. By adding plain water or touch of blue food dye along with colored glass, starfish and sea shells a seascape can presented on the event table. A fish bowl, sand and a small artificial palm tree can also be used.

With the spring comes the blossoming of beautiful flowers which can be used to embellish the water candles. Using any shape clear container add earth colored stones and a single flower. A white rose is an elegant choice but peonies, daisies, and hydrangeas are beautiful options, too.

Winter wedding themes can be created by using a round vase with artificial snow. Add greenery such as silver glitter berries or sequined Birch branches to create a winter back drop for the candles.

Glass stones are a great way to liven up the water candle. The stones come in a huge assortment of colors and can be bought to coordinate with the wedding party and decorations. Each table can have its own color or be uniform throughout.

Large candle holders with etching or designs is another alternative to the clear vase. Other options for the rehearsal dinner and reception can be colored margarita, pilsner and high ball glasses.

Center pieces can be created with larger, shallow bowls or with a large hurricane holder. These holders also come in many different colors and can be chosen to match the wedding décor.

Lastly, if plain water is the preferred choice add a bit of lavender, peppermint or sandalwood oil to the water. This will create a subtle scent for the wedding reception or rehearsal dinner.

There are many creations for the water candle and though some may like these ideas other couples may prefer a traditional look. Water candles in staggered holders can be a lovely choice.
