How to Turn a Woven or Wicker Placemat into a Wall Clock

Placemats, Wall Clock

You can make this woven placemat clock in a matter of minutes with the help of a clock kit.

Lately I have been coming across some great woven placemats. They are so beautiful and add a lot of texture to any room. Well, you can easily turn these woven placemats into a beautiful wall clock to match your table setting in no time.

You can use a square, circular, or even rectangular woven placemat to make a clock. Get creative!

This woven or wicker placemat clock is a fun accent piece that should fit into quite a few different rooms in any home. This woven placemat clock would look great in a dining room, kitchen, or breakfast nook.

To Make a Clock Out of a woven placemat you will need:

One woven placemat

Clock Kit

Wooden Numbers or pieces with numbers written on them

Glue

Power Drill

Battery (Probably AA)

Now, I always come across great woven placemats. I even find vintage woven placemats at the flea market every summer. Each of these would be perfect to make into this simple clock.

You do not need to Drill a small hole in the middle of the woven placemat. You can simply insert the clock kit through the woven material in most cases. If you can not though, you may have to drill.

This will be for your clock kit, so you may want to take a look and see what you need to do. You don’t have to center the clock face; you could offset it for some visual interest.

Now, you are ready to install your clock kit on the woven placemat. Follow the direction on the clock kit box. Each kit will be slightly different. I find clock kits at the hardware store, the home improvement store, and almost every single arts and craft store out there. I recommend a clock kit that runs on a battery so that you do not have to have a cord hanging out of the back of the woven placemat, but that is complexly up to you.

Now, some clock kits will come with numbers, but you may find that they are too big for this wicker placemat project. You can use these great wooden numbers sold at the arts and craft store for this if you want. I like to paint them out in red, or a contrasting color that will really show on the woven wicker placemat, glue them on and really make this look great! You could also glue them on spoons and then glue those on the woven wicker placemat clock.

You could also buy wooden cut out in the shape of circles. Go ahead and paint them out in their colors. When they dry you can glue on some smaller wooden cutout numbers. Paint these in all the same color that match the placemat to tie the woven wicker placemat piece together.

Pop a battery into your clock kit and you can now hang your woven wicker placemat clock on the wall. If you are hanging it in a kitchen room why not hang it where everyone will see it! This will be a really conversation starter when the you guest over!

Just remember, you can make this woven wicker placemat clock with any sized woven wicker placemat!
