How to Throw an Ice Cream Sundae Party

Ice Cream Sundae, Ice Cream Sundaes, Waffle Cone

Just about everyone loves ice cream. The dessert is widely accepted by children and adults as it has the amazing ability of creating a state of euphoria upon the first taste. Ice cream is soothing for a quick escape from the dog days of summer heat. It is also a crutch for the disheartened ladies getting over a breakup of a boyfriend. Whatever the reason, ice cream is always available for cheering us up and it plays an important role in being a “go to” dessert when we are in a crunch.

Ice cream also makes a terrific theme for birthday or barbecue get-togethers. It is far better to prepare an ice cream sundae party as a substitute for a pizza party or full scale barbecue. The simplicity is realized when you do not have to use the oven to bake nor purchase an amazing amount of ingredients. There may be an extensive list of ingredients needed for ice cream sundaes, but the cost will certainly be much less than hosting a full scale barbecue or pizza party.

Ice Cream Sundae Party – The invitations

So you want to host a summer time or even fall or winter get together involving ice cream sundaes? Well, first thing you want to do is prepare your invitations. Get creative and use some craft paper and even some patterns or templates that have shapes of ice cream bowls and sundae dishes. You may even want to search the web for more ice cream sundae invitation ideas.

Ice Cream Sundae Party – The Supplies

Once you have established your guest list, prepare a list of the ingredients you will need. Consider at least three to four ice cream flavors for your party. I recommend vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and the fourth flavor being one you think will be widely accepted such as mint chocolate chip.

Your toppings list should include at the very minimum the following: whipped cream, hot fudge, caramel, chopped nuts, bananas, and cherries. Consider adding other fun toppings such as crushed Oreo cookies, m&m;’s, and chocolate jimmies. I have seen quite extensive topping displays involving much more different candy toppings such as crushed Heath bars and chopped peanut butter cups.

Your sundae party will also require you to purchase containers for your sundaes. If you do not own glass or acrylic sundae bowls, consider purchasing an edible waffle cone bowl which will hold your ice cream creations. The kids will finish their treats with no leftover dishes, except maybe the spoons!

Ice Cream Sundae Party – Quantity

Plan at least a cup of ice cream for each guest. Your guests will probably eat this size or maybe even a little less. If your list is large consider purchasing the ice cream sold in the larger size buckets thus keeping the party costs lower.

Ice Cream Sundae Party – Venue

If you are hosting the party outside in the warm weather, make sure to keep your ice cream as cold as possible prior to serving. Arrange the sundae toppings and ice cream on a large picnic table. This is the most favorable sundae setting as the mess will be entirely outside the home.
