You can easily make your own jewelry cleaner with products you already have in your kitchen. With common household ingredients like salt, baking soda, ketchup, vinegar, toothpaste, Alka-Seltzer and dish detergent you can quickly make your own jewelry cleaning solution and your jewelry will be sparkling and clean.

These home made jewelry cleaners are very inexpensive and easy to use. They’ll save you money and help to preserve the environment. They are also safe for you, your home and the environment.

When you make and use your home made jewelry cleaning solutions wear rubber gloves or use tweezers to protect your skin as these solutions can be very drying.

Here is a very simple apple cider vinegar jewelry cleaning method. All you need is a bowl, 2 cups of apple cider vinegar and a soft cloth. Put the vinegar in the bowl and soak the jewelry in the vinegar for 15 minutes. Then take the jewelry out and dry it with a soft cloth.

Another simple way to clean your silverware and silver jewelry is soaking them in a solution of vinegar and baking soda. Put 4 tablespoons of baking soda in a bowl with a cup of white vinegar. Let your jewelry or silverware soak in the mixture for 2 to 3 hours. Then rinse the jewelry or silverware in cool water and dry it with a soft cloth.

This vinegar and baking soda jewelry cleaning solution is heated. The supplies you need for this method are a bowl or container, vinegar, baking soda, a brush and a soft cloth. Heat the vinegar in the microwave and then put it in the bowl. Add some baking soda and the solution will start foaming. Then leave the jewelry in this solution for 5 minutes. Scrub the jewelry with a brush to clean hard to reach places. Rinse the jewelry with water and dry it with a soft cloth. Don’t use this method for cleaning pearls, soft stones or glued jewelry.

This home made jewelry cleaning solution does not require any vinegar. You can make it with 2 tablespoons of salt, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of dish detergent, 2 cups of water, a piece of aluminum foil and a medium sized bowl or plastic container. Heat the water in the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes. Cut a piece of aluminum foil larger than the bottom of a medium sized bowl or plastic container.

Pour the hot water into the bowl. Add the salt, soda and dishwashing liquid and stir. Put the jewelry on the foil and leave it for 5 to 10 minutes. Then rinse the jewelry in cool water and dry the jewelry completely with a soft cloth. If you heat the dish detergent it will be to bubbly. Don’t keep the cleaning solution, make a new batch the next time.

This jewelry cleaning solution will clean gold filled, brass, german (nickel) silver and sterling silver and other jewelry. You can clean jewelry with pearls, cameos and mother of pearl with your new jewelry cleaner.

This natural jewelry cleaning method works better than more costly jewelry cleaners. It removes tarnish in difficult to reach parts of jewelry quickly and easily.

You can also use it to clean silverware, coins and other household items. Toothpaste is also recommended for cleaning jewelry and other household objects. Use a toothbrush you don’t use for teeth.

Here is another safe natural jewelry cleaning boon, ketchup. Put some ketchup in a bowl you’d like to use for cleaning jewelry. Let the ketchup stand until it’s room temperature. It works better that way.

Place the jewelry in the bowl and let it sit there, checking frequently to see the tarnish being removed. You can use a brush to scrub the jewelry where there are tarnish spots. This is an acid and can eat away too much of the finish if left too long so watch it and rinse the jewelry frequently with warm water. Remove the jewelry from the bowl when it is clean enough. Dry it with a towel and shine it with a washcloth or jewelry cleaning cloth.

If you put your jewelry in a bowl of Alka-Seltzer for a few minutes it will look better. Put the Alka-Seltzer tablets in a bowl of water. Then put the jewelry in the fizzing Alka-Seltzer. Leave the jewelry in the bowl for 5 to 10 minutes. Your jewelry will look shiny and clean when you take it out.

To clean your jewelry with laundry detergent you’ll need a bowl, aluminum foil, water and bleach-free powdered laundry detergent. Heat some water in the microwave, a cup or two depending on how much jewelry you’re cleaning. Put the hot water in the bowl and add a tablespoon of detergent per cup of water. Then put the jewelry in the bowl and let it soak for two minutes. Rinse the jewelry with water and let it dry. Your jewelry is lovely again.

Another easy natural way to clean your silver jewelry involves only a baking pan, water, salt, baking soda and aluminum foil. Select a baking pan large enough to lay your jewelry so it isn’t touching. Line the baking pan with aluminum foil, shiny side up. Place your jewelry on the foil so it isn’t touching. Boil enough water to cover all the jewelry. Add a tablespoon of salt and a tablespoon of baking soda to the water after it’s boiled. Carefully pour the boiling water into the baking pan. Let the jewelry soak until the water cools. When the water is completely cool take the jewelry out of the pan. Dry the jewelry and shine it with a soft cloth.

You can also clean your jewelry with a mild dish detergent solution. Add 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid to 1 quart of lukewarm water. Soak the jewelry for 10 to 20 minutes. If necessary, brush the jewelry with a soft brush to remove stains. You can use a toothpick for hard to reach spots. Rinse the jewelry with water and dry it with a clean soft cloth.

After you have used these natural cleaning solutions your jewelry will look like new jewelry again. If you store your silver jewelry in a plastic zipped bag that will keep it from tarnishing. Put the jewelry in a plastic zipped bag before you put it in your jewelry box or safe.

The baking soda and salt jewelry cleaning solutions are for silver jewelry. For stainless steel jewelry and silverware try cleaning with vinegar instead of the solutions with baking soda and salt because it can be corroded by baking soda and salt.
