For my baby shower in August 2005, I had three showers because I had twins, my childhood friend had made me a Fleece Baby Blanket. Before she made this blanket for me, I had never even heard of this type of blanket much less seen it.
I thought to my self, “Self, I can make this.” So, I asked her how she made the blanket and she gave me some instructions which she said could be altered to fit the size I want the blanket to be.
For my cousins new baby boy born four months ago, I made her a Fleece Baby Blanket where I only needed two pieces of Fleece Material, Scissors, one Pencil and a Measuring Tape.
This is how I made the baby blanket for her:
I went to Wal Mart and purchased:
2 Yards (each) of Disney Tigger Fleece Baby Blanket Material
1 Pair of Scissors
1 12 Foot Measuring Tape
1 Pencil for Measuring
Once I got home, I placed one piece of Fleece Blanket, flat, on my carpet and then placed the other piece, flat, over the one already on the carpet.
To make sure the pieces were equally square, I had to cut away material that was not even.
When each Fleece blanket material was even and square, I took my tape measure with pencil and measured three inches from the end of the material to where I wanted to begin cutting the fringes.
Since I had four sides to cut, I decided to cut each fringe three inches apart and three inches going up so I would not have too many fringes to cut.
***Now, when you do this blanket, I have to remind you to cut a 3X3 or 4X4 paper square and place this in each corner of the blanket, cut this square out first so when you begin to tie all the fringes together, the blanket will not look round or puff up.***
If you want to do a printed Fleece Baby Blanket, please also make sure you look at it from a distance or in a mirror before you begin cutting so the blanket will be made the right way.
This blanket took me 3 hours to complete. It may take you more or less depending on when you begin and how many breaks you take in between.
This blanket does take time and patience because this is not sewn, but literally hand made, it is made with love and time.
When the Fleece Blanket is complete, you will be happy and so will your family or friends who receive this blanket.
My Sister is giving birth to her third baby this month and once I find out if it is a Boy or Girl, I will make her a Fleece Baby Blanket accordingly.
