How to Make a Western Cowboy Lamp

Cowboy Boots

This western cowboy boot is the perfect addition to a western themed kitchen, a home office, your family room, or even a little boy’s room. Lately I have been coming across worn out leather cowboy boots at Goodwill. I also have started seeing cowboy boots in major departments stores as well as PayLess Shoe Source. Cowboy boots are the perfect shape to create this home lamp craft project. You can complete this s cowboy themes western lamp with either one boot or a pair of cowboy boots.

Overall this project should take you less than 2 hours. I think it should cost you about $60 or less, depending on how much you have to spend d on you cowboy boots!

To make a Lamp out of some Western Inspired Cowboy Boots You Will Need:

Boot or a Pair of Cowboy Boots
Hat Kit
Cowboy Hat
Wood Base
Epoxy Glue
Power Drill
1/2 ” Drill Bit

Now, the first thing you need to do is to decide if you are going to make this lamp out of one or two cowboy boots. Once you diced this go ahead and have a piece of birch ply wood cut to a size that will fit underneath of your cowboy boot(s). Now, just simply measure how wide and long the boots are. Add on an inch or two to the length or width and have the local home improvement store cut the piece of birch plywood for you.

Now, you can stain this piece of wood if you use birch plywood. It is high quality wood and will look great stained. If you want to paint this base though just use pine and save some money.

Pre drill a ½ inch hole in the middle of the base before you paint.

Apply your stain and let I dry completely. You can also apply a coat of primer and then your paint, just le this dry completely as well.

Now, if you are using one boot you will need to pre drill a hole though the middle of the sole of the boot. Work from the underside and drill in. Shake of any excess dust and debris. This hole needs to be ½ inch wide as well to hold the rod in the lamp kit.

If you are using two boots you can skip this step. Each to can be placed on either side of the lamp kit rod to hide it if you are using the pair of cowboy boots.

Now, for the single cowboy boot lamp you would install you lamp kit through the base of the wood, through the inside of the boot. You will need to follow you own individual lamp kit instructions.

For the pair of boots simply install the lamp kit and rod to the wood piece of the base.

Now, for the pair of boots use your epoxy glue to install a boot on either side of the lamp kit rod. If they are not hiding the rod enough you can use tapestry needle and some thick thread to sew the bots together around the lamp kit rode. Just push the needle through inside of the boot, past the rod, and into the next boot. Repeat by wrapping around and pushing the needle through again on the other side of the rod. Be sure to tie this off in a knot.

Now, you may want to let your epoxy glue dry before you do this sewing. Otherwise your boots will be moving all around.

Finish install the top of your lamp. Be sure to buy a lamp kit that has the light basket on top. Now, use your drill to drill a hole through the top middle of you cowboy hat. If the cowboy hat is straw you can skip this. You could also se a regular old lampshade if you want.

Install your light bulb, slip the cowboy hat or lampshade on the top of the lamp hardware, and screw on the finial. You’re finished!
