How to Make a Mirrored Folding Screen

Wood Frames

This simple mirrored folding screen is a great way to add some light to a room in your home. Mirrors are also a great way to visual expand a small space in your home. I love this simple mirrored folding screen project because it stands all on its own. If you are renting you won’t have to worry about making another nail hole in the wall either!

To Make This Simple mirrored Folding Screen You Will Need:
3 sheets of plywood cut to the same size
Two piano hinges
3 long tall mirrors
Primer
Sand Paper
Paint
Roller brushes
Paint trays
Drop clothe
Power drill
Mirror glue

Now, the first step to making this simple mirrored folding screen is to buy your mirrors. You want to purchase these first because you can make this simple home décor project a lot easier if you base the size of your folding screen around the size of your full length mirrors.

Now, most full length mirrors will be about 12 inches wide and about 50 inches tall. You want to buy tree, then have your sheet so plywood cut to 4 inches wider and four inches taller. They should all be the same size.

Now, one other good bit of advise I can give you when making this simple mirrored folding screen is to buy mirrors with beveled edges. Do no buy a mirror with one of those existing cheap plastic or wood frames. The beveled edge will make this simple homemade project look a lot more professional.

Now, go ahead and give your three pieces of plywood a light sanding. You could also use sheets of MDF, which would need no sanding.

Now, once the primer dries paint them out in any paint color you would like. I recommend painting the folding screen to match the existing trim in the room you will be displaying it. It will tie in nicely with your existing home décor this way.

Now, once your paint has dried you can go ahead and install the hinges. I like to install the hinges before the mirrors on this folding screen because then you do not have to worry about breaking them. You know that seven year thing…

You want to install the hinges so that they open in the opposite directions from each other. This will allow you folding mirrored screen to stand up in a stable way. Simple place you hinges in place. Mark the holes with pencil, and then pre drill them with your power drill. Now you can easily screw them in place without breaking a sweat.

Now, open the folding screen up and lay it flat on its back. Take all three mirrors and lay them face down on a flat soft surface.

Take your heavy duty adhesive or mirror glue and zig zag a thick bead down the back of each mirror. This glue will look like caulking and come in a huge tube.

Now, gently place each mirror in the center of each panel of the folding screen. Allow the glue to set and dry according to the directions on the package.

Now, use a little Windex or vinegar to clean off any fingerprints and stand you’re mirrored folding screen up and put it into place!
