How to Lose Weight when You Can’t Exercise

Cutting Calories

There’s no denying the fact that exercise can increase the speed of weight loss. Unfortunately, exercise isn’t always an option. Whether it’s an injury, disability or conditions caused by excess weight, there are times when exercise is impossible. That doesn’t mean weight loss is out of reach. It’s still possible to lose weight without exercise.

Discover Nutritional Goals

There are handy calculators online that allow you to plug in your height, weight and exercise levels to determine how many calories you should consume each day in order to lose weight. This gives you the ability to easily determine how many calories you should eat without being active. This total will be different than those that exercise because your body will need fewer calories to function.

Opt for Healthier Foods

Because calories are more limited when you are unable to exercise it’s important to use them wisely. Snack on fruits and vegetables, add more fiber to your diet, choose lean proteins and generally make healthier food choices. By not loading your body down with high fat foods, your body will have an easier time shedding pounds.

Boost Your Metabolism

Exercise definitely boosts your metabolism, but it’s not the only solution. Simple things like eating breakfast each morning, using cayenne pepper in your meals, drinking green tea or water with lemon can boost your metabolism. More importantly, do not cut your calories too low. People think that cutting calories to excessively low amounts will lead to quicker weight loss. Wrong. Doing so will slow your metabolism because your body thinks it’s starving.

Meditate

Emotional eating can destroy weight loss and is one of the reasons people gain weight in the first place. Learning to deal with stress is great tip for losing weight. Taking only 10 minutes a day to mediate can help you become more in tune with your body. When you’re in tune with your body, you are more aware of the choices you make. Being aware, can help prevent you from eating a pint of ice cream after having a bad day.

Don’t let yourself be fooled. You can lose weight even though exercise isn’t an option. The key is to make lifestyle changes. It may not be as easy, but it is doable. Don’t let your lack of activity stop you. Make the choice to be healthier and do what it takes to make that goal a reality.
