How to Install a Car Audio Amplifier

Car Audio

Installing a car audio amplifier can be a easy task if you know a little about it first. First thing is to know a little about what you are doing and what you are going to need to install your car audio amplifier.

First is you are going to need to buy a wiring kit which run around $100. This includes remote wiring, battery cable, and all other things you are going to need.

Once you have that you are going to need a few tools to install your car audio amp. First thing is a screw driver, Philips head, second you are going to need a pair of pliers or a wrench that will match the size of the terminals on your battery. You are also going to need a pair of wire cutters or a box cutter either will work, and 4 screws to hold the amp down.

First step is decide where you want the amp. In the trunk is the most common place but under seats is also a good spot to if you are trying to save space. Just make sure it is in a spot where it can breathe or it might
over heat.

Next open up the hood of your car and disconnect the negative terminal going to the battery of your car. This will make it so you don’t get shocked installing your car audio amp. Now open up the wiring kit and take out the long red cable. The should be a metal ring on one side of it. Now unscrew the positive terminal on the battery and slip that ring on the bolt and then screw it back into the battery. Now you are going to take the other end and feed it into your cars firewall. It is under the winder shield and it is a hole leading into the car. It might take some time to find it but it’s there. Once you find it feed the cable into that hole. Now you want to run the cable to where your amp is going to be. You don’t want it out in the open so try running it inside of trimming in the car or under carpet or under the center console. Once you have the power wire ran to where the amp is going to be open the wiring kit and take out the blue wire in the kit this is your remote wire. This can be a the hardest part of installing a car audio amp. If you really have no clue how to remove a car audio deck there is a high risk it won’t be put back in the right way, or be damaged in taking it out. So..after saying that remove your car audio deck and on the back of it locate the remote wire. If it is a stock deck it might not have it. It should be a blue wire and be labeled remote. Once you find it splice it with your remote wire and run it back to your amp. Now if your deck is after market it is going to have outputs for a sub woofer. If it does take the av cables that are in the kit wire them to that and run it back to the amp. If not look in the wiring kit for hi level output wires and run those back. Now is another fun part. It’s time to find a ground for your amp. You are going to need a solid metal surface, the car’s chassis. If you are doing it under the seat lift up a little bit of the carpet and find a bare spot and sand it really well. Then take a bolt and secure the end of the ground with the ring to the chassis. If you are installing in the trunk there is a few options. Look for a bolt in the trunk and clean it off really good and wire it to that. Or do the same thing you would have done in the seat. My favorite is to take the trunk latch off and bolt it down to that.

Once you have those wires ran to where the amp is going to be place your car audio amp down and screw it down in the factory screw holes. Now connect the red wire to the + terminal hole on the amp. The black wire to the – and the av chords to the holes that the fit into. Now take the speaker wire out of the wiring kit and run them into the sub woofer output which will be labeled + -. Remember which side of the wire went into the + and which went into the -. Now hook those into the + and – holes on the sub woofer and turn on the deck and rock out!
