How to Host a Super Hero Birthday Party

Hawaiian Punch

Kids will love being the super hero at their very own super hero themed birthday party. This party idea can be tailored to appeal to kids anywhere from pre-school age to 5 or 6 years old. At the end of the day, you will be your child’s hero and they will be left with super memories of their very fun, super hero birthday party.

Super Hero Party Invitations

Superhero invitations are usually available for purchase in the card section of many stores. Choose your child’s favorite hero and buy pre-made invitations. If you are feeling crafty, however, follow these directions for a “super” cute home made invitation.

Using blue, red and yellow card stock or construction paper, create Superman’s chest logo. An example of this design is found easily through an online search. Sketch out the design and make a few templates. Make a large blue shield shape and a slightly smaller yellow shield shape. Make thin red trim, just smaller than the yellow shield shape. Finally, instead of making a red letter “S,” Make the initial of your child’s first name.

Once you have cut out and assembled all the pieces for the invitation, print out the party information on a separate sheet of paper and cut it to fit on the back of the Superman logo. Include the option for guests to come in their own “super suit” or let them know that one will be provided for them in case their suit is at the “cleaners.” Have a few extra masks and capes on hand for kids with out a super suit.

Super Hero Party Decorations

Tape streamers across the ceiling of the party room and using fishing line, hang pictures of different superheroes from the ceiling.

Super Hero Party Games

Kryptonite Game: Use a green glow stick and play the same as “hot potato.” Let kids sit in a circle and pass the kryptonite around while listening to music. When the music stops, the last person to have the kryptonite has to sit out. Play until there is one winner.

Spiderman Toss: Board with Velcro strips shaped like a web. Toss bugs or bad guys (with Velcro attached) at the web.

Super Hero Obstacle Course:
1. Crawl through a bat cave (table with black cloth or sheet over it).
2. Spiderman Crawl: Suspend balloons from the ceiling on strings so kids can touch them.
3. Somersault
4. Robin tightrope: Walk a line on the floor.

X-ray Vision Game: Put items in a box. Let the kids identify them without sight, only touch or smell.

Pin the mask on the Superhero

Toilet Paper Tie-up: Have an adult volunteer to be the Bad Guy. Let the kids put them in a chair and “tie” them up with toilet paper.

Super Hero Party Activities

Purchase inexpensive kid sized masks that cover just the eyes and part of the nose. Let kids decorate their mask using feathers buttons, glitter glue stickers and markers. To speed up the drying process and allow kids to wear their masks right away, use a hair dryer on any wet glitter glue.

Kids can also help make their own super hero capes using a yard of felt. Fold over the top 2 inches of the felt and pin. Cut short slits in the fold every 2 inches. Be careful not to cut through the top edge of the felt. Do this task before party guests arrive as it will be difficult and maybe dangerous for little kids to work with pins and scissors. Remove the pins and you should have a series of slits. Have the party guests weave a length of ribbon in and out of the slits and gather it to look like a cape. Finally, trim the bottom edge of the cape so it doesn’t get tripped on.

Super Hero Party Treats

A bowl of Bugles can be called “Cat Woman Claws” while another bowl of Goldfish crackers transform into penguin treats. Make cupcakes and frost with a white or light colored frosting. Provide candies and sprinkles and let the party guests decorate their own cupcakes. Serve Mr Freezes Frosty Brew using the following recipe:

1 bottles ginger ale
1 bottles club soda
1 1/2 cans frozen Hawaiian Punch (6 oz.)
1 cans frozen lemonade
1/2 pt. raspberry sherbet ice cream

Defrost punch and lemonade. Put in punch bowl. Sodas should be well chilled. Blend well; add sherbet and swirl around. Serves 20 – easily doubled.

Super Hero Party Favors

In addition to the mask and cape kids will get to take home, small super hero action figures make great party favors for your super hero birthday party. Take a Polaroid of the kids dressed up in their super gear and send that home as a favor too. Super hero stickers and super hero fruit snacks are also great choice for Super Hero party favors.
