How to Get Angelina Jolie’s Hairstyle

Blow Drying, kiehl's

Angelina Jolie’s hairstyles range from elegant and sophisticated to simple and sexy. Being one of the hottest, most popular and most successful women of our time, Angelina’s hairstyles are often imitated. You can have Angelina’s hairstyle by following a few simple steps.

Angelina tends to wear her hair in cascading tresses full of lush body and soft curls. It is a look that suits everyday life as well as evening functions. Whether you’re off to school, shopping with friends or seeing that someone special for dinner, the long, full casual look Angelina wears so easily can be yours, too.

Start with a Good Haircut

A good haircut is essential to any style. Straight, long hair will benefit from layers because it increases the volume. To duplicate Angelina’s hairstyle, have your layers cut on the surface. Use sharp angles but blend the layers with the rest of the hairstyle.

Use a Volumizer and Conditioner

Volumizers help lift hair at the root to give that thick full look Angelina wears. Apply to damp hair at the root. Matrix’ Amplify ThickLift Liquid Volumizer is heat-activated and retails for about $15. Kiehl’s Super Thick Volumizer has a special nozzle to lift hair at the roots allowing more precise control. It retails for about $18.50. Apply a silicone-based conditioner to the rest of the hair such as Image’s Shine Plus Prolene Silica Conditioner which sells for about $18.

Blow Drying

Very few people have the kind of volume to their hair that Angelina’s hairstyles embody. After applying product to help achieve the look, blow drying does the rest of the work. Divide your hair into two sections, a top one and a bottom one. Pin the top section up on top of your head to keep it out of the way while working on the lower section. Beginning with the bottom section, use a paddle or large vent brush to dry sections of your hair. Keep it straight and move your blow dryer in a downward motion from root to end to reduce flyaway hairs and frizz. To create lift, use your brush to lift a strand of hair 2 to 3 inches while blow drying from underneath. Allow the hair to cool for a few seconds before doing the next strand. Repeat this until the whole lower section of your hair is dry.

Unpin the top section of your hair and repeat the drying process described above. To add lift or if your hair is resistant to being lifted, you can flip your end upside down and massage the roots while you blow dry the roots. Flip the hair back and continue drying the rest of your hair.

Finishing

You’re almost there. The hairstyle of your dreams is almost in your grasp. Once your hair is dry, flip your head upside down again. Apply a light-hold hair spray like Paul Mitchell’s Super Clean Light Finishing Spray which I like because it doesn’t crunch or become sticky. Remain upside down for a few moments to give the spray a chance to dry. Flip it back up and Voila! You have the Angelina Jolie classic hairstyle.
