How to Create Dynamic Spiral Curls

Fall Wedding Hairstyles, Wedding Hairstyles

Spirals were big in the 90s and now they are coming back. Lately we’ve seen spiral curls on stars like Taylor Swift, who allows them to spiral softly around her neck, and Alicia Keys.

Spiral curls have a luscious, springy look that is super easy to style. Spiral curls are not only easy to work with, but in recent years a plethora of products have hit the market to help you create, style, and care for spiral curls.

There is more than one way to get spiral curls. The hairstyle used to require a spiral perm, now, thanks to product development and new styling tools anyone can sport spiral curls.

Spiraling natural curls
Women with natural curls are the envy of those who want to sport curls. Spiral curls can be easily achieved by women with natural curls. First, to maintain and keep curls tame, minimize shampooing. Natural oils will help tame dry, frizzy curls and make them more manageable. Styling or scrunching gel should help you create the spiral curls you want.

Long tight spiral curls
Unless you are blessed with tight curls, you will have to get a spiral perm in order to sport spiral curves. Stylists usually charge a little more to roll a spiral perm than a regular perm, but the only real difference is in the direction the perm rods are rolled. The process takes longer than a standard perm.

I don’t recommend trying to roll a spiral curl on your own. It’s difficult to select just the right size rod for the curl you want. A professional stylist will take you hair texture, natural curl, and additional hair care into consideration.

Spiral curls can be rolled tight for a full, vivacious curly hair or rolled with larger perm rods to create fuller dropping spiral curls. Again, the trick is in determining how much weight your hair has and how much it will pull on the curl. This will affect the size of the perm rods needed to create your hairstyle.

Loose spiral styles
Loose spiral curls are currently the most popular spiral curly hairstyle. This is the style popularized by Taylor Swift.

Loose spiral curls are also sexy and popular worn for prom and wedding hairstyles.

These spiral curls can be achieved without a perm with the use of a few specialized styling tools and products.

Long thick hair is very easy to roll into loose spiral curls. For long, falling spiral curves allow your hair to grow out and have it trimmed to an even length. For a fuller head of luscious curls hair may be trimmed into long layers.

Dry hair until it is about 75% dry, then begin use a barrel, curling brush to begin preparing your hair for spiral curls.

Use a spiral curling iron or large barrel curling iron to create dynamic curls. Try curling iron barrels of varying length to create a more dramatic spiral curly hairstyle.

Use a firm, but flexible holding spray to hold your spiral curls in place.
