How Attempting to Discover Who’s Viewing Your Facebook Page May Just Make You Look like an Idiot

Since Facebook has become popular, users have always wondered about who has viewed their profiles. It’s an interesting topic to think about. We all have “friends” on Facebook who aren’t really friends, more like classmates or co-workers we see and talk to on occasion. And sometimes we wonder if our Facebook pages are being viewed by only our real friends, or it they are actually being viewed by those office acquaintances. Of course, this has drawn many people to want to figure out who has peaked at their pages. But here’s the catch: you can’t.

A new tool….

Recently an application has been going around Facebook and there’s a good chance that you have seen it show up in your News Feed. Here’s what happens: a friend pops up on your News Feed and a picture comes up under his or her name. This picture shows a list of several of your friend’s friends, and according to the picture, the people listed have all viewed your friend’s profile. How long ago they viewed your friend’s profile picture is also included. Underneath the picture is a caption saying, “LMFAO!!! SEE WHO VIEWED YOUR PROFILE!! Click here,” pointing to a link you are expected to click. Don’t click it. It’s a scam, fair and simple. It won’t steal your information, but it may make you look like a moron. Which one of those scenarios is worse is for you to decide.

Don’t look like a fool

If you proceed to click the link and download the application, you’re simply embarrassing yourself and wasting your time. See, as intriguing, legitimate, and realistic as the application looks, it’s entirely false and does not offer what it claims. Additionally, the application tags all your friends listed in the picture once it shows up on everyone’s News Feeds. Quite simply, the application does not accurately tell you who has been viewing your profile. Many people know this, which is why they don’t download the application. Instead they just laugh at others who download it. Don’t be one of the people who gets laughed at.

Why is this new application suddenly so popular if it doesn’t work then?

What is also leading to this application’s success is its uniqueness and intricacy. In the past, in order to find applications that supposedly tracked who was viewing your profile, you would have to look and search for those applications on Facebook. Since this current application actually tags your friends mentioned in the aforementioned picture, the application shows up on not only your News Feed, but on the News Feeds of your friend’s friends’ friends. Yes. That many people are exposed to this application, which is why it is so popular and why you’ve probably seen it, or will in the near future. In reality, with this new “tracker,” it only takes a handful of people to get it seen by millions.

This concept is nothing new, but profile tracking devices are still against Facebook’s policy

Of course, an application telling you that you can find out who has viewed your profile is nothing new. This has been happening for years. But what’s important to remember is that none of the applications claiming this service have ever been legitimate. Not one. And as long as Facebook continues to disallow such applications, these applications will never actually do what they claim. Remember, it is against Facebook policy to be able to see who viewed your profile. No application has succeeded at doing it in the past, and this new one hasn’t either. If you ever see an application on Facebook claiming it will tell you who viewed your profile, avoid the temptation and get away from it, it’s a scam.
