Hong Kong Pearl Chinese Restaurant

Chinese Food Restaurants, Wonton Soup

Hong Kong Pearl, a Chinese food restaurant, is a local favorite for this style of cuisine. Located in the Langhorne Square Shopping Center at 1299 Lincoln Highway, in Langhorne, PA, Hong Kong Pearl is open seven days a week for both dine-in and take-out services, and they also deliver to a small area around the restaurant.

The staff is quiet, they don’t speak much English but they are quite helpful when explaining the ingredients used to prepare the dishes and they never seem to make our food incorrectly, no matter what sorts of changes we might make the original recipe. They are flexible, and friendly, despite their lack of communication skills. Dining in at Hong Kong Pearl is entertaining, the restaurant is small but very clean and the food is always delivered in a highly efficient manner.

To start your meal, try one of Hong Kong Pearl’s soups or appetizers. Their Wonton Soup is by far the tastiest of the soup selections, and while it is a traditional Chinese Wonton Soup, it’s made with high quality ingredients so the pork inside the wontons is actually white meat and the scallions are extremely fresh and crisp. Their Wonton broth is homemade, and you can really taste the difference from other Chinese restaurants in the area.

For appetizers, they do offer crispy noodles with the best homemade duck sauce, but I suggest both the Pan Fried Dumplings and the Boneless Spare Ribs to start your meal. The dumplings are stuffed with pork and are served with a fabulous soy dipping sauce. And the ribs are perfect! Most times, boneless ribs from Chinese food restaurants can be rubbery and lacking in the meat department, but not at Hong Kong Pearl, their ribs are cooked as though barbequed and they are full of meat, we always order a second batch to take home with us because they are honestly that good.

For entrees, you will find all of the traditional favorites featured on Chinese food menus across the country. Our favorites are their Vegetable Lo Mien, with its al dente noodles and super fresh veggies, as well as their Moo Goo Gai Pan, whose sauce is so fabulous, we usually ask for extra. The chicken in this dish is so tender and the veggies compliment it wonderfully. We also rather enjoy their Broccoli in a garlic sauce, it’s spicy and the veggies are steamed so the combination of texture and flavor makes for a wonderful dish when paired with their steamed white rice.

Children won’t find a Kid’s Menu here, but the chef will dial down the dish to meet a child’s blander palate. They do offer desserts of both fortune cookies as well as almond cookies, both of which are a great way to end the meal, along with a steaming cup of their hot tea.

Hong Kong Pearl also offers Combination Platters as well as Lunch Specials, both are great choices because they are served with pork fried rice and an egg or spring roll. Choosing this option will allow you to spend far less money and get much more food than you would if you ordered your selections a la carte.

Everyone can find something they’ll enjoy at Hong Kong Pearl, whether you be a vegetarian, a spicy-food fanatic or somewhere in between. They are so successful that they can often be quite busy so be sure to place your take-out order at least 25 minutes before you wish to eat, and if you decide to dine in, be sure to arrive at least a half an hour before you’ll be really hungry for dinner!
