Betadine is the Best Antiseptic Around

Antiseptic

Betadine Solution is a must in my household. Over the years I have purchased several bottles. I was first introduced to it in 1994 when Len had his quintuple bypass surgery. He came home with 93 staples in his chest and the inside of his left leg. These were to be kept clean and free from infection with peroxide and Betadine solution. I had to thoroughly clean the staples every day, until we returned to the surgeon, to have them removed. Since that time I have kept 2 bottles, one downstairs and one in my bathroom cabinet upstairs.

This product has been around in hospitals for 46 years and is the number 1 hospital antiseptic.

Right now I have one 8-ounce bottle and a 4-ounce, too. They are so easy to use as they have the flip top lid. The only problem I sometimes get is, when I tilt it to pour a little Betadine solution on my cotton wool, too much runs out and I waste it.

I think it gets the greatest use from me being scratched by my friend’s new puppy. I find scratches and holes where his claws have gone right into me. I immediately wash the area and then get a cotton ball and apply Betadine to the area of concern. It turns it a yellow/orange/reddish color for a short period of time. It almost looks as if you are bleeding when first applied. If the puppy does draw blood I try to ensure that it has stopped bleeding before I use it. Otherwise it can get a little messy. If the wound is deep then I will let the Betadine dry first and then put a Band-Aid on it.

I am always burning myself on my curling iron and the minute it happens I reach for, you know what, my trusty Betadine. It works every time.

With Len’s diabetes he cuts and gets scrapes very easily. I am ready with the Betadine, I clean the area for him, and then apply it. I am pleased to say that with every single cut, scrape, burn, and surgery that we have both had, Betadine has been a player in killing any germs or bacteria that might have infected the area.

A little from the manufacturer:

Betadine Solution kills germs promptly in burns, cuts, scrapes and minor skin wounds. It contains Povidone-Iodine 10%.

Directions: For minor wounds, burns and infections apply directly to affected area. May be covered with gauze or adhesive bandage after allowing it to dry. Use 1 to 3 times daily.

Caution: In case of deep or puncture wounds or serious burns, consult a doctor.

Do not use for more than a week.

Keep out of the reach of children.

Avoid storing at excessive heat.

For external use only.

Do not use in the eyes or over large areas of the body.”

This is the best first aid antiseptic around. With my latest 8-ounce bottle I have probably used it a dozen times, and it has only gone down a quarter of an inch. This is fantastic value. Unfortunately I can’t remember how much I paid for it but I can tell you that you will get years out of a bottle.

No household should be without it.
