Homemade Foot Soaks

Excessive Perspiration, Foot Bath, Foot Soak

Think how hard your feet work for you. Feet support your weight and carry you from one destination to another. At times, they endure ill-fitting shoes, hard surfaces, and rank lowest on our “body care totem pole”. However, with minimal effort and cost, you can create a homemade foot soak for your feet which gives them the loving care and pampering they deserve! Making a homemade foot soak is simple and more than likely you’ll have some of the ingredients in your kitchen or bathroom right now. If not, most of the components of homemade foot soaks are easily found and affordable.

What You Need to Get Started

Basic Ingredients – When preparing to make a homemade foot soak, some of the most basic ingredients include Epsom Salt, water, baking powder, baking soda, rice, lemon juice, honey, olive oil, and other oils.

Foot Tub or Basin – You don’t need anything fancy to create a basin for your feet. A large stainless steel bowl, a bucket, or even a galvanized steel tub will be perfect for your foot bath. Just make sure the item you use is one that is wide enough for your feet to comfortably rest in.

Recipes for Foot Soaking

Here are a few recipes in which you can soak your tired, aching and most-deserving feet.

Homemade Foot Soak #1

This is one of the most basic foot soak recipes that are great for circulation and foot odor. Cook one cup of rice and cool. Add about 5 tablespoons of baking powder and water to the rice and stir. The mixture should be soupy.

Baking powder helps to prevent excessive perspiration and kills bacteria that are on the feet. Rice water is helpful in improving circulation.

A variation to this recipe is to add tea tree oil (just a few drops) which helps to fight fungal infections.

Homemade Foot Soak #2

This is even more basic and simple to make than the aforementioned foot soak. Take about ¾ cup of Epsom salts and add ¼ cup of Baking Soda. Add both ingredients to warm water and mix well. Allow feet to soak for 10-15 minutes.

Remember, the temperature of your water should be as comfortably warm as you can handle it. Before sticking your feet into your basin, test the waters first! Make sure it’s not scalding but keep in mind that warm water tends to provide more relief to tired feet than does room temperature water.

Homemade Foot Soak #3

The following is one of my favorite moisturizing foot soaks and is extremely soothing and healthy! Take one cup of honey and add to warm water. Mix together thoroughly and then soak feet for 10-15 minutes.

Honey is known to help heal cuts, reduce inflammation and scarring, and does wonders for the digestive system. In terms of our feet, honey is an antiseptic, cleanser and contains antioxidants. Honey is also a humectant which moisturizes our feet in an extremely efficient and effective manner.
