Holiday Baking Party Favors for Kids

Cookie Cutters, Green Gift Ideas, Holiday Baking, Rolling Pin

Are you planning on hosting a holiday baking party or cookie swap party for the kids this year? If so, you’ll undoubtedly want to hand out a few party favors in the process. As a former party planner, I have a few party favor ideas that I would like to share with you. In the past, each one has worked well for me. Maybe they will work for your party as well. Here they are:

Cookie Mix in a Jar

If you want to hand out a homemade party favor, you may want to consider filling a few Mason jars with dry cookie mix ingredients. You can use any one of your family’s favorite cookie recipes. I like filling my party favor jars with basic sugar cookie ingredients. Other cookie mixes that work well are chocolate chip, oatmeal, peanut butter and white chip macadamia nut.

Once the jar has been filled with the ingredients, cover the Mason jar lid with a festive piece of fabric. You may opt to glue the fabric onto the lid or simply tie it into place with a holiday ribbon. I’d also suggest that you print out the baking instructions on a piece of decorative card stock and attach it to the jar as well. That way the kids can make the cookies with their parents once they get home.

Cookie Cutters

An assortment of cookie cutters also makes a great party favor. Depending on your budget, you may want to consider buying plastic cookie cutters from the discount store. Based on my experience, it tends to be the least expensive option. You can generally pick up six plastic cookie cutters for a $1 whereas metal cookie cutters are likely to cost you $2 to $3 each. I’d also suggest wrapping the cookie cutters up inside holiday themed fabric squares and tying the squares shut with a ribbon.

Child Size Rolling Pin

A child size rolling pin would also make a wonderful gift. You can typically purchase child size rolling pins through specialty retailers like Growing Cooks for $2 to $5 each. The rolling pins come in different sizes and designs. I’d recommend that you consider buying a 7 inch mini rolling pin for your youngest party guests. A standard size rolling pin is best suited for teens.

Apron and Chef’s Hat

Last but not least, you may want to consider giving each party guest an apron and a chef’s hat. You can generally purchase child size aprons and child size chef hats through party supply retailers like Oriental Trading. I’d suggest that you consider purchasing an apron that the kids can customize with fabric paints and other embellishments. That way you can use it as a party activity as well. In most instances, a dozen aprons will lighten your wallet by about $11.
