‘Hannah Montana’ Girls’ Boots Recalled Because of Danger of Tripping

Payless

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on Thursday a voluntary recall of the Payless girls’ boots described below.

The boots have guitar-shaped zipper pulls which can interlock while the wearer is walking, causing the wearer to trip. There have been five reports of the zippers interlocking. In one of the reported cases, a four-year-old girl fell and skinned her knees.

If you have a child who has these boots, you should take them away from her immediately and return the boots to the store where you bought them for a refund or exchange.

About 90,000 pairs of boots are involved. They were manufactured in China and sold in Payless ShoeSource stores nationwide and on payless.com in August and September, 2007, for about $27.00. They were sold in girls’ sizes 10 ½ to 4 ½.

The boots are black and resemble cowboy boots. On the outer leg side, a picture of a guitar is engraved, and there are different-colored “jewels” decorating the design. The inner leg has the guitar-shaped zipper pull. They came in a box that had a photograph of Hannah Montana, a character in a popular Disney children’s show of the same name, and “Hannah Montana” is engraved on the bottom of the boots’ soles.

There is a photograph of the boot and the zipper pull on the CPSC announcement.
