Guide to Houston, Texas Dance Clubs

90's Music, Dance Clubs

Although I no longer go dancing every week, I still enjoy going pretty regularly. There are a number of dance clubs in Houston all catering to a different crowd and playing different kinds of music. It’s great to have such a variety of places. You can have a drink and conversation while dancing occasionally to some good songs. You can practice your ballroom skills, boot-scoot, people watch or spend the night moving to a pounding beat. Whatever your preference, Houston has it. Here are some of my personal favorites:

Drink Houston located at I-10 and Silber is one of my favorite places to go on the weekends when I want to dance. This is the best place to go with a crowd so you do not have to decide on just one place to go because Drink Houston is a little bit of everything. They have a full service bar and you should dress to impress or take a chance of being turned down at the door. You can dance to the hottest music with a great light show, head to the retro bar to listen to some 70’s-90’s music, show off your Latin moves or even karaoke.

Chayn’s is open Monday through Friday from 4:30 pm to 2:00 am and Saturdays from 7:00 pm to 2:00 am. Happy hours feature drink specials and buffet food. Chayns strictly enforces their dress code and it is definitely a dress to impress atmosphere. This club caters to the 30’s and older crowd and you can often see skilled ballroom dancers showing off and those learning practicing their steps. This is a great place to socialize after work and dance for the serious dancer. They are located at 3920 FM 1960 West.

Numbers (http://www.numbersnightclub.com/) has a variety of themes each night so the crowd varies from punk and Goth to yuppie professionals. Numbers caters a bit to the younger crowd or those who are young at heart. You can always see interesting people wearing the latest cutting edge fashion. Numbers is open during the weekend and during the week for special events on occasion. They have live performances and a DJ who plays the latest pulse pounding music to dance to. This is a great place to dance and people watch. They have a full service bar with great specials. Numbers is located at 300 Westheimer.

Whether you are in the lifestyle or not, if you want a great combination of music, lights and interesting views, go to ClubCave, Houston’s premier dance club for couples. Adults only are allowed in this club and be prepared to see some risqué behavior. This is a BYOB club so bring your liquor but get mixers, juice, water and sodas on premises. ClubCave is open Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 pm to 3:00 am. Membership and cover is required, weekend and nightly memberships are available. Couples and single ladies always welcome, single males allowed only on Thursday. JD, the DJ plays the hottest music accompanied by a hot light show to dance to on the huge dance floor or you can show off your talents on the raised stage or go-go cage. If you are up for a bit of an adventure, this is a great place to go. Staff is friendly and the patrons are friendlier. There are a lot of regulars as well as new faces in the crowd every time I go. Club Cave is located 12712 Hempstead Highway.

While I do not prefer country music, on occasion I do like to dance to it and there is no better place to go than Wild West. They are open Tuesday through Sunday and have multiple daily specials on food and drinks. There is a great mix of ages so everyone will be comfortable here. While focusing on DJ and live music featuring the country and western genre, you will also hear some pop tunes thrown in from time to time. If you do not know how to dance to country music you can even get dance lessons. Wild West is located at 6101 Richmond.
