Guide to Fast Growing Shrubs

Fast Growing Trees, Forsythia, Growing Trees, Lilac Bushes, Lilacs

If you plan to do some landscaping or if you want to grow some shrubs for privacy around your yard that grow fast, there are a few shrubs that are out there for purchase. If you go to your local garden shop or visit a landscaping business, I am sure they can offer up some ideas. Here a few suggested shrubs you can ask about when visiting. I myself have used a few of these, and they grow nicely.

Euonymus – Chicago Fire Burning Bush

This astonishing bush is excellent for adding color to your yard. In the summer and fall you will see a brilliant red color, it just lights up the scenery. However you plan to use it, it will grow quickly. It’s usual height is about 8 to 10 feet, and spreads out about 6 to 8 feet. These can be planted in full sun or partial shade, but must have a good water drainage.

The lilac

Lilac bushes are a wonderful addition to your landscape. Not only do they grow fast and look beautiful, but they smell excellent. Every time you walk out your door when the lilacs are in bloom, you will catch a lilac smell, and oh do they smell so good. There are several varieties of lilacs, purple being the most popular. The only set back is lilacs only bloom once a year, and once the lilacs are gone, you have to wait until next year to catch that smell again. That is why it is suggested to plant more than one variety, so you get a chance to see and smell them longer throughout the springtime.

Elderberry – Black Beauty

The Elderberry is a beautiful shrub, with it’s purple and black leaves and pink flowers. It also produces black purple berries in the late summer, and song birds love to visit them. These grow fast in full sun, so it’s best to grow them around your house where there is little shade during the day. These shrubs grow to about 5 or 6 feet high and wide, and you can grow them in a variety of soil types.

‘Lynwood Gold’ Forsythia Shrubs

These shrubs have a magnificent color yellow. In the early spring and fall, the Forsythia shrubs will give off a spectacular array of yellow and reddish colors, and make your landscape look vibrant. They grow about 2 to 4 feet a year, and get to be about 8 to 10 feet high and wide. You can plant them in partial shade or full sunlight, and don’t take much maintenance. Use them to fill in space or to put color in your front yard, either way, you won’t be disappointed.

Frost Proof Gardenia

The Gardenia is an excellent choice for shrubs the grows flowers. This shrub produces beautiful white flowers that have a perfumed smell as they bloom. The frost proof gardenia grows excellent with a little bit of water a day. You can grow them in partial shade or in full sunlight, and will get to be about 3 to 4 feet high and 2 to 6 feet wide. These gardenia’s are very well shaped and can be put in the front or side of your yard, without the fear of deer eating them or the cold weather killing them. You can put them in almost any type of soil, and look nice.
