Goth Ideas for a Bedroom

Draperies, Goth, Goth Clothing, Window Coverings

When you think of goth, you probably think of lots of black; however, a gothic theme is more than just that color. When using goth as a theme for decorating your bedroom, you can use it to bring out sensuality and a historic feel. There are some easy ways to bring a goth feel into any bedroom.

Walls

For a simple wall choice, you can paint the walls black; however, there is a problem with choosing black walls. By painting your walls black, the black holds in heat, so in the hot summer months your room will be much warmer than it would be otherwise. So, if you want a room that does not absorb as much heat, you could also try gray. Gray gives the feel of stone, which is an appropriate goth theme. You could also use several shades of gray to paint a stone façade on your walls.

Furniture

Since gothic themes are based on medieval style, you will want to use traditional materials such as wood and iron for your furniture. Look for wrought iron bed frames at furniture stores. When choosing dressers or end tables, look for dark woods. Instead of a long dresser, look for tall armoires or chests to hold the medieval feel.

Bedding

There are several ways to go with the bedding. The simple choice is to look for velvet comforters in reds, black or grays. The sheets can be cotton, but satin work well too. You can choose a combination of colors as well. If you are not looking for a pure gothic feel, you could look for gothic themed bedding, such as some with skulls.

Window Coverings

If you want fabric Window Coverings, choose heavy fabrics with a rich feel, such as velvets or tapestry prints. You want to be able to completely block the light out and you want the draperies to go to the floor and be billowy. You can either look for premade draperies or else you can make your own, which will allow you to make them exactly as you would like. For colors, look for deep rich reds, blacks, or grays. If you prefer not to use fabrics, you can make wooden shutters. Use dark woods and black metal fixtures to attach them to the walls.

Accessories

You want to be careful not to over-do the accessories; a little goes a long way. Look for black wrought iron mirrors for the wall. Bleached skulls add a nice accent around the room. Also, roses are true to the theme. Look for silk dark red roses that look like they have been dried. You can find these at craft stores. Anything that feels gothic can be used to add accent to finish your room.
