Gold and Gem Mining in Georgia

Gem Mining, Georgia

Gem mining or gold mining can be a fun activity for the whole family especially the kids. Who wouldn’t like to get a little dirty and wet and possibly find something pretty or even worth some money? Georgia is a neighboring state of mine as I live in North Carolina so I decided to write this article about Georgia gem and gold mines. All the mines listed in this article will have website links. Also if you are interested I also have articles here at Associatedcontent.com about Virginia and North Carolina gem mines. I hope you enjoy this and get out and do some gem or gold mining in Georgia!

Gold n’ Gem Grubbin

You just have to love the name of this place if nothing else. Gold n’ Gem Grubbin is located in Cleveland Georgia about an hour outside of Atlanta. Go to their website here for specific directions and the address. Discovery Channel like the place so much they put it on their travel channel’s “Cash and Treasures

What I enjoy here is the diversity in what you can choose to do at Gold n’ Gem Grubbin. You can pan for gold, grub for gemstones (sluice mining) or mine for gems at the creek. Custom made jewelry can be found and they can turn the gems you find into jewelry for you. Perhaps the best thing is that there is a campground here as well so you can spend the night right on the premises.

Consolidated Gold Mines

According to their website this was the site of America’s first gold rush and is the largest hard rock gold mine east of the Mississippi River. Visit the Consolidated Gold Mines in Dahlonega Georgia at 185 Consolidated Gold Mine Road. You can phone them, 706) 864-8473 or email [email protected] for more information.

You can take a really cool underground gold mine tour here in the Georgia Mountain. Also available are gold panning and gemstone mining. You can expect to find Sapphires, Topaz, Amethyst, Quartz, Moonstone, and Garnets.

Crisson Gold Mine

The Crisson Gold Mine is very close to Dahlonega Georgia and was started as an open pit gold mine in 1847, according to their website. As a history buff I enjoy the fact that they have a 125 year old stamp mill that is still used today.

At the Crisson Gold Mine you can pan for gold or just buy a bucket of ore to take home. They also import dirt from Franklin North Carolina so visitors can do some gem scrubbing for stones. Custom Jewelry is also available for sell at their establishment.

You probably won’t strike the mother lode and get rich gem or gold mining in Georgia or anywhere else. However getting rich isn’t the point. This is great fun and gets you out of the house and into the great outdoors. Men I promise your wives would love to have
