Glenny’s Brown Rice Marshmallow Treat

Brown Rice

I purchase one single Glenny’s Brown Rice Marshmallow Treat as a little special treat for myself with a recent iHerb.com order I placed. I paid .95 cents for the one little treat and I waited anxiously for it in my order. When the UPS man came with the box my sweet tooth overcame me and it was the first thing I went to after opening the box.

As most vegetarians are aware marshmallows nowadays are made with gelatin which comes from animal hooves and bones. Not exactly something you would ask for in a sweet treat. Though, Glenny’s has made a marshmallow treat, similar to Rice Crispy treats without the icky animal stuff.

In addition to the no animal bones Glenny’s Brown Rice Marshmallow treat is also made with whole brown rice. It is made with the crispy rice, just like the normal rice crispies, but it is whole grain. I am all for turning junk food into a healthier junk food. Plus, the marshmallow part is made with brown rice syrup instead of the traditional corn syrup.

I really like the taste but it didn’t fully satisfy my rice crispy treat craving, at least when comparing it to what I am use to. It has a marshmallowy taste but also a mild brown rice syrup taste. The marshmallow taste was just a little less creamy than I am use to too. I was a bit disappointed that the marshmallow treat did not at all hold up. With every bite I took it was falling apart and crispies were falling away from my mouth. It was not as solid and compact as I am use to crispy treats being. That was a little disappointing but the taste was really good that I can turn my head a bit about that issue.

I was also a little disappointed that it didn’t have that almost stretchy quality that traditional rice crispy treats have. I don’t know if it was because it didn’t have enough marshmallow, or what. I know it is not because it lacks gelatin because I have had and have made rice crispy treats without gelatin and they are equal in comparison to the “stretchy” quality. Though they were made with corn syrup and not brown rice syrup. Could that be the difference?

I wasn’t too happy about the size. It was gone before I even knew it. I know I have an over anxious sweet tooth but it didn’t seem to last too long, even with me purposefully taking each bite slow. A single one is less than an ounce .85 ounce. I think now .95 cents was too much for such a small amount, especially since I saw an add for a local health food market selling them for .69 cents.

Glenny’s Brown Rice Marshmallow Treats are certified vegan, gluten-free and organic. They are made by a company called Glenny Foods. Each bar has 100 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 35 milligrams of sodium and only 7 grams of sugar.

I really do enjoy Glenny’s Brown Rice Marshmallow Treats. I think kids and adults alike would. If I could change anything maybe to make it hold together better and possible to give more for the price. If the price were right I would definitely buy Glenny’s Marshmallow Treats again, though probably not at .95 cents for one. I have seen them also sold in boxes before and would buy those too to have a treat around the house, if the price were decent.
