Sofa slipcovers and couch slip covers can be so expensive, especially if you invest in one of those sure fit slipcovers. I bet you have some free couch slipcovers you didn’t even know you had!

Quilts make wonderful slipcovers for your couch. Whether you have an old quilt, new quilt, blanket, or even a throw, this is a great source of a big piece of fabric to use as a slipcover on your couch, a chair, or wherever you need a slip cover.

If you are using a quilt as a slipcover on a couch, then make sure it is washed and wrinkle free.

Find the middle of the quilt and line it up with the middle of the couch. Drape the quilt slipcover over the back to the couch, over the cushions, and hanging onto the front.

You want any excess hanging over the back of the couch. Line your quilt slipcover edge up with the shirt or front bottom edge of your couch to make it look neat.

You can tuck the quilt slipcover into the cushions on yoru couch or chair. If you have excess fabric sticking out on the sides then try pining two safety pins to the fabric. Slip a ribbon through the tow pins and pull them together.

Fabric shower curtains are an unusual source for great slipcovers for a couch or chair. Ok, I really recommended washing yoru fabric shower curtain in the washer with some fabric softener.

You want to trim off the row of holes on the end. Fold the rough edge over and iron it down with some no sew to create a smooth edge with no holes.

Sweaters, a bunch of sweaters, make a wonderful fussy and warm slipcover for a couch or chair. To get started cu tout the front and back of the sweater into the largest squares you can get. You should get two from each sweater.

Sew all yoru sweeter pieces together to make a large blanket.

Drape the sweater couch slipcover as before.

Old jeans are also a fun free source of fabric for a couch slipcover. Cut each leg into two long strips f denim. You will get four strips of denim from each pair of jeans.

Sew these together, like a quilt, to make a huge blanket. You can drape this slipcover as before or even brave cutting them out and sewing together your own slip cover!
