Anyone who likes to collect butterflies in one form or another may like these free butterfly quilt patterns. Each of the free butterfly quilt patterns are different.
Butterflies are one of the most beautiful insects on Earth. Some people collect butterflies and pin them to a board. Others collect butterflies on plates and other home decor.
If you enjoy flowing gardening, you may have butterflies during the spring and summer. The varieties of butterflies in different areas of the world vary on the climate and flowers. Butterflies help pollinate flower gardens naturally. I like to see what types of butterflies come to the tall flox and other flowers I plant each year.
If you don’t know how to quilt, you could pay someone make you a quilt from any of these patterns. If they ask where you found the patterns, just let them know or offer to print them off for the person making the quilt.
If you’re a beginner in quilting, I would suggest starting with one of the Simple Butterfly applique quilts. With those, you would cut out the butterfly from one fabric and sew it onto a block that is larger than the butterfly. You could also sew the butterflies onto one large piece of fabric large enough for your bed. If you really wanted to get into the pieced quilt patterns, check with Hobby Lobby, Michael’s or a fabric store, like Joann’s, for quilting classes. Some women’s clubs have quilting classes as well as some county extension offices. If the county extension offices don’t they could have a list of places that have free or cheap quilting classes.
While there are other ways to learn to quilt for free, the interaction between other quilters and yourself can be more beneficial than learning by yourself. Not only that, making a quilt or learning how to quilt with other people can be very fun.
List of Free Butterfly Quilt Patterns
There are six free butterfly quilt patterns listed below. There are two patterns that have 9″ blocks. You could use those two patterns to make one quilt as well as two quilts from those patterns. With those two butterfly quilt blocks you could have a total of three quilts.
Butterfly Quilt Pattern
This quilt pattern is a quilt of just a butterfly. There is a link to use for getting the instructions and quilt pieces below the description of quilt.
9″ Butterfly Block Quilt Pattern
This is just a butterfly block quilt pattern. There are a bit of instruction at the top for the quilt block but not for making the quilt.
Butterflies Quilt Pattern
This is a quilt pattern with four butterfly quilt blocks. It will open in a PDF. It has eight pages that will print out. Some of the pages are in color. The sixth and seventh pages have the butterfly pieces and the last page has pictures of the fabrics used in the quilt.
Simple Butterfly Applique
This is a template of a butterfly that can be used for appliqueing a quilt. With that in mind, you can make the butterflies any color you want for the quilt. You can make blocks to sew them onto or use a large piece of fabric to applique them onto.
Simple Butterfly Applique 2
This is a different butterfly than the one listed above. It could be used with the butterfly above to create a different style of quilt. It could be used by itself on a quilt in the same manner as I mentioned above.
June Butterfly Quilt Pattern
This is a PDF that was from the Kansas City Star circa 1931. It is a 9 block quilt pattern. There are 5 blocks of butterflies with four plain blocks. It will print out onto one page. The instructions are simple. The butterfly and its block corner templates are on the page.
Town and Country Butterfly Quilt Pattern
This butterfly quilt pattern is made of two different butterflies. One is an elegant butterfly while the other is a simple butterfly. The link above is for the quilt block pieces only. It shows in the blocking of the quilt pieces the order of how both sides of each butterfly are sewn together.
