Foot Odor: Causes & Cures

Foot Odor, Hosiery, Shoe Odor, Smelly Shoes, Stinky Feet

Everyone has played stinky feet with a sweet little baby foot. However, stinky feet are not so cute when they really stink. What is going on? There are a few areas that you should check. Lets go on a journey through the possibilities and find a solution that will remedy the problem.

Clean feet:

Always start your day with clean fresh feet. Powdering your feet or putting lotion on them will start your feet out feeling fresh and smelling great.

Shoes:

Gym sneakers no longer stink as they did when we were kids. The shoe companies have found ways to let our feet breath. Oh, but purchase that in expensive “pleather” sneaker or shoe and a new smell may fill the room. I have experienced that children who are wearing plastic penny loafers can smell like a stinky foot with their shoes on. The smell began to absorb into the plastic and the whole shoe began to stink. Inexpensive pumps are the same they can stink! There is nothing like looking great. A business woman with a suit and pumps but there is an odd odor that swirls around your feet. Leather is the best material for a foot to release moisture and have circulation. The first thing that you should do when looking for the cause of the odor is to go through your shoes or even your child’s shoes. Who ever is experiencing the smell must consider the shoes that they are wearing.

Socks and hosiery:

Another smell culprit is dirty socks or hosiery. Never wear the same socks or hosiery without washing them. They will hold the moisture from the day before and when the new moisture hits the old dry moisture odor will arise. Hosiery can be washed, rinsed and hung to dry daily. Socks are a dime a dozen so to speak. If you are running out before you get to the laundry then invest in about another seven pairs. Consider the thickness of the sock that you wear. If you are experiencing an odor problem with clean socks and a leather shoe check to see if you need a thicker or a thinner sock or hosiery.

Bacteria:

If you have done all of the above and still have a problem you need to deal with bacteria. The bacteria that causes feet to smell like rotted eggs is called Micrococcus sedentarius. These bacteria produce sulfur compounds which stink. This bacteria can be treated by spraying your leather shoes with an antibacterial spray. Your shoes may also need your insoles replaced. A great antibacterial powder may help as well. If you do all of these things and your “piggies” still stink you need to visit the doctor. He or she will be able to give you soaking instructions and even prescribe medications for your stinky toes.

Hope this helped you in your adventure to cure your stinky feet. Aaaah, there is great pleasure in slipping off those pumps and stretching your legs out under your desk and wiggling sweet smelling toes.
