Food- Organic- Food, the Natural Way

Cooking Secrets, Organic Chicken

With all of the antibiotics, insecticides, preservatives, hormones, and everything else they are putting into our food today, how do we know when we are paying for true organic foods?

Coleman Natural Foods has been a leader in organic foods for an unbelievable 125 years. Yes, Coleman began looking into healthy and natural foods before the public realized the effects of insecticides and other harmful influences. They were the pioneers in the movement to bring organic chicken to California.

Eva Safar, Vice President of Marketing, for Coleman Natural Foods, explained, “All products from Coleman are certified 100% organic food when the label says organic. Coleman is recognized as the Top 49 Best Ready to Eat Foods. We helped write the rules for organic products.

The protocol at many of the other farms is to include antibiotics in the animal’s diet to prevent diseases but this also results in fatter, super animals. Coleman adds corn and soy to the organic feed without pesticides.”

While we traveled around England’s North Country the small towns and villages gave us the feeling of the way life used to be enjoyed. Our breakfast consisted of freshly laid eggs and bacon from a nearby farm.

Eva commented, “We work with groups which have all been certified organic with no use of chemicals in their farms at all. It is not easy to have an organic farm. The farm has to be clean of any type of insecticides for many years before the first organic chicken can be raised and called an organic chicken in the market. The animals are in the pasture, not controlled in a small environment. The chickens are raised in barns with open space where they can walk around freely. This reduces the stress in their environment and is good for the chickens, humans like that too.

The quality of life for animals is important to us and adds to the final product we get to take home. In this low stress environment, the number of chickens to walk the foot paths with access to food and water is restricted. Fresh clean water runs through the barns at all times.”

That sounds like Kobe beef, where they take care of the cows, massage them, and only feed the cows a special diet.

Eva feels, “Animals raised naturally are raised right. Coleman is the largest organic chicken company in the US and the leading processor of fresh and prepared food. Our motto is ‘The way nature intended’.”

When I go to the grocery, the labels have so many ingredients that it is difficult to know what is in there.

Eva recommends, “If you can’t pronounce the ingredient, don’t eat it. When you look for chicken, there should not be anything else in the package but chicken.

Our strict animal raising protocols surpass USDA standards providing truly all natural fresh pork and poultry cuts. Using only meats grown with our standards Coleman Natural Foods supplies Ready-to-Eat and Fully Cooked entrees like Bacon, Sausage, Hot Dogs, Ham, and Chicken Strips.

Coleman selects only the best breeds, raised to our exacting protocols, with 100% vegetarian diets and no animal byproducts. Coleman never uses antibiotics or growth hormones. We never add anything to our products that nature did not create: no nitrates/nitrites or other chemical preservatives and no MSG. We never use fillers.

Coleman’s passion for natural and organic foods extends to the ecosystem focusing on sustainable land, water, and soil conservation for future generations.”
