Five High Energy Snacks

Energy Snacks, Rice Cakes

Do you ever hear yourself saying, “Man I am so tired. I can barely move my worn-out butt off this couch. I need a snack, something that will wake me up, give me some energy and get me moving.”

Well there are such things as energy snacks, and it is not wrapped in plastic and conveniently located in a snack machine. These are natural wonders, snacks that give you energy, balance your metabolism and provide you with things like antioxidants and vitamins. You need to boost your energy; you are dragging from low blood sugar. You also need to wake up without sucking down a chemical cocktail in the guise of an energy drink. Try these five healthy and easy snacks naturally designed to boost your energy levels.

Apples, they are portable and delicious. They can be sweet or sour. Apples don’t require anything but a pocket to carry one in and teeth. This time tested standard is the perfect energy boosting snack.

Cereals with high fiber content provide a steady release of sugar into your blood system over a period of hours. Take a few minutes in the aisles and find a cereal with over three grams of fiber per serving. Did you ever wonder why a bowl of oatmeal will keep you going for the entire morning? It was the fiber. Grab a couple of small zip lock bags, fill them with half a cup or so of your favorite healthy cereal and you have urban trail mix.

Seeds are a good way to give yourself a healthy pick me up. I prefer sunflower seeds, but pumpkin seeds are just as good. Be careful and watch the salt intake though; the majority are loaded with salt.

Veggies take a little more time to prepare, but are still tops for ways to heighten that lagging blood sugar. Don’t waste money on baby carrots; those are just regular carrots that have been sanded down to a cute and uniform size. Get a five pound bag of carrots for the same price and throw them in the crisper drawer of the fridge. Those carrots will keep for weeks there. Take a few minutes and slice up some green and red peppers, add a few cucumber slices and a bit of celery and you will be moving faster in no time.

Finally a great boosting snack would be something crunchy and flavorful. Rice cakes have greatly improved over the years. They are no longer tasteless hockey pucks. You can get barbecue, cheese or even ranch flavored. If you are in the mood for something sweet try the caramel flavored ones, delicious. Rice cakes are a great alternative to chips. I have even added a bit of turkey lunch meat and cheese then used two rice cakes to make a sandwich.
