Five centerpiece ideas for spring weddings

Spring weddings are popular due to the fact that it is the season of renewal and rebirth. It is a time when couples are able to make a fresh start, which includes getting married and starting a family. There are numerous ways to decorate the tables in the reception hall for spring, when fresh flowers are blooming and fruit is coming into season. My sister’s upcoming wedding inspired me to come up with some fun table centerpiece ideas. Here are five centerpiece elements to utilize for spring weddings.

Clear jars and vases

There is no limit to the number of ways you can use clear jars or vases as table centerpieces. Just think of all the things you can use to fill them: flowers, marbles, sand, candles and so on. And for the jars, you can stay very casual with empty canning jars, or you can go formal with fancy vases. Live flowers will probably need to sit in water, but if you choose to go with the artificial ones, you can surround them with sand, marbles or anything you like. Or, keep it simple with a single tea light candle at the bottom of each jar.

Types of candles to consider

A romantic touch, candles are popular as a wedding table centerpiece choice. But there are so many different types and sizes – how can a person decide which type of candle is best? First of all, there are scented and unscented candles. Scented candles will help spread a fresh aroma during the wedding reception; however, try to avoid too much scent during dinner. If the smell is too strong, mix scented and unscented candles for a lighter, airy aroma. If you have a larger centerpiece for the tables, consider surrounding them with a few small tea lights. Or mix and match a few tall and short candles as the main centerpiece.

Decorative fruit centerpiece

Fruit as a centerpiece does not have to be a basket of assorted fruit, unless that is what you choose to do. First of all, do you have a theme or color scheme for your spring wedding? Put that into consideration when you decide on a type of fruit. Now, as we already discussed, clear vases make great display holders for your centerpiece of choice. Lemons are a bright and cheery fruit choice. Place a few artificial flowers in the vase then surround their stems with fruit. Or, you can use two clear bowls of different sizes, with one placed inside the other; cut the lemons into slices and place in the larger bowl. Then you can fill the small bowl with flowers or another centerpiece of your choice.

Potted flowers and plants

Flowers do not necessarily have to be cut or purchased from a floral shop. Why not grow your own flowers to use as a table centerpiece for your wedding? It may be risky, knowing there is a chance your flowers may not survive the months leading up to the wedding. But in that case, you can always go buy a few potted flowers from a greenhouse. Before the wedding, transplant them into pretty pots that fit with your color scheme. Wrap the pots in ribbon, adorn them with the bride’s and groom’s initials – make them uniquely yours.

Decorative favors

Turn your party favors into a decorative centerpiece. First, you will need something to hold it all together, whether it is a decorative box, jar, bowl or vase. Or, for something more unique, use a shoe, purse, fish bowl in which to keep the favors. Then fill the holder of your choice with one or more types of favors: bubbles, seed packets, candy or whatever you like. Customize your centerpiece of favors to fit your wedding theme.
