I researched and found many notable people who were born in Ohio. You will find the ones I chose to write about below. I have been doing alot of research, therefore I have also included interesting information about each Ohioian. Mostly, I have chosen the information that stands out and seems most intriguing, at least in my opinion.

Halle Berry

Halle Marie Berry was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 14, 1966. Her middle name was selected after a depatment store that was a landmark in Cleveland. Her mother is a nurse, her father was an attendent, both who worked in the same psychiatric ward. Berry’s grandmother was born in England, and her grandfather was born in Ohio. She graduated Bedford High School , then worked in at Higlee’s Department Store, in the children’s department. After that she went to Cuyahoga Community College. She entered beauty pageants in the 80s. Eventually she won Miss Teen All-American in 1985. The following year she won the Miss Ohio in 1986. She was in the Miss USA pageant in 1986, and she won first-runner up, with Christy Fichtner of Texas winning the title. Her pageant interview in the competition awarded her the highest score from the judges. In 1986, she became the first African-American Miss World entrant, she finished in sixth place. Giselle Laronde was the Miss World winner. Ms. Berry has appeared in endless movies and as we all know is a huge success. On March 16, 2008, she had her first child, who she named Nahla Ariela Aubry. She is currently with Gabriel Aubry, who she had had a steady relationship with since 2005.

Catherine Bach

This TV icon was born in Ohio, one source says in Monroe, another says Warren, Ohio. Born on March 1, 1954, her last name is Bachman, her stage name is Bach. Of course, she is best known for her role as Daisy Duke on the television series, The Dukes of Hazzard. She also had roles in African Skies and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. It is claimed that over five million copies of her “Daisy Duke” posters have been sold. She has two children Laura and Sophie.

Wes Craven

Wesley Earl Craven was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 2, 1939. He is a successful writer, producer, and film director. He is well known as the creator of numerous horror movies, including the Nightmare on Elm Street series featuring the one and only Freddy Krueger. He was also the director of the Scream trilogy. He has had an extremely successful career and has won eight awards and three nominations during his career. He has produced movies as early as 1971, starting with the film Together. Other notable films that he produced include Night Visions, The People Under the Stairs, New Nightmare, The Hills Have Eyes III, The Hills Have Eyes, Dracula, Dracula 2000, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and many others films.

Tim Conway

He was born in Willoughby, Ohio, on December 15, 1933. He was in notable films like McHale’s Navy, and The Carol Burnett Show. Though born in Willoughby, Ohio, he grew up in the nearby town of Chagrin Falls. He aolso attended Bowling Green State University in Bowling, Ohio. He majored in radio and speech. He was named Thomas Daniel Conway at birth, but later changed his name to “Tim” as to not be confused with actor Tom Conway. He graduated college and then joined the Army. Afterwards he took a job answering mail for a radio station in Cleveland. Later he became a writer in the promotional department. In 1956, he moved to New York and auditioned for the Steve Allen Show. He was made a regular player as he continued on the show for two seasons. He has won an Emmy Award for his work in the show 30 Rock. He also voices the character Barnacle Boy on the Nickelodean channel’s cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants. He also appeared on Married With Children as Ephraim Wanker, the hillbilly father of Peg. He has guest starred in tv shows like Yes, Dear, and On The Spot (WB Network).

Phyllis Diller

This famous comedienne was born in Lima, Ohio, on July 17, 1917. She went to school at Sherwood Music Consrvatory in Chicago, Illinois. Later transfering to Bluffton College in Ohio. In her early years sge was a mother, housewife, and advertising copywriter. She lived in Michigan during World War II. In the 50s she made appearances on You Bet Your Life, and on the Jack Paar Show. You Bet Your Life, was Groucho Marx’s quiz show. She was a serious piano student but decided against a music career , and instead made a career in comedy. Her career began as a stand-up act. She was everywhere in the 60s pop culture. She also appeared in other films, in television, and through guest appearances. She has had a very successful career.

Drew Carey

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 23, 1958. He has had roles in Whose Line Is This Anyway?, The Price Is Right, Drew Carey’s Green Screen Show, and the Power of Ten. Drew is the youngest of Beulah and Lewis Carey’s three sons. He was only eight years old when his father died of a brain tumor. In 1985, his comedy career got started. He won an open-mic contest in 1986 and then became MC at the Cleveland Comedy Club. Performing for multiple comedy clubs in both Cleveland, and is Los Angeles, and then was brought to the public eye as a comedian, appearing on Star Search in 1988. He has one many awards and honors for his work, and is still very successful.

There are many other notable people from Ohio, but here is a short list of others.

Steven Spielberg, Harriet Beecher Stowe (the author), R.L.Stine (author), Toni Morrison (author), James Thurber (author,cartoonist), and Zane Grey (author). People from this state have seemed to have became namely successful authors, writers, film producers, directors, cartoonist, playwrights, screenwriters, and composers, to only name a few.
