New Mexico is the U.S. state located in the southwestern region. New Mexico has been inhabited by American Indian populations and has been a part of the Imperial Spanish viceroyalty of new Spain, part of Mexico, and a United States territory. The capital of New Mexico, is Sante Fe. The largest city of the state if Albuquerque. Several tribes are represented in the state mostly Navajo and Pueblo peoples. The climate of the state is highly arid and the state’s territory is mostly covered by mountains and desert. New Mexico is the sixth most sparsely populated U.S. State.

Total area of the state is 121,665 square miles. The landscape has a wide assortment of ranges, from wide deserts to broken mesas, to snow-capped peaks.

The first inhabitants of the state were members of the Clovis cultrue of Paleo-Indians. Later, it became inhabitated by Native Americans of the Mogollon and the Anasazi cultures. By the 1500s, the settlers of the villages were Pueblo people and groups of Ute, Apache, and Navajo.

Notable people from the state include famous actors, actresses, cartoon animators, race car drivers and champions. Of course, this is just a few of the careers that notable people from New Mexico have encountered.

Demi Moore was born in Roswell, New Mexico. Her birthname is Demetria Gene Guynes, and she was born on November 11, 1962. She is of course an extremely famous actress. She spent her childhood in Roswell and Pennsylvania. Eventually her family moved to L.A. She then attended Fairfax High School and it was there that she went to school with Timothy Hutton and Anthony Keidis (singer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers). She is currently married to Ashton Kutcher, and has been since 2005. The last name Moore was taken from her first marriage to Freddy Moore, the two were married from 1980-1985. After marrying Kutcher, Demi changed her last name to his, but still using Moore professionally. Demi has been in many popular movies like St. Elmo’s Fire, About Last Night, Indecent Proposal, Disclosure, G.I. Jane, Ghost, One Crazy Summer, and many others. Her primary residence is in Hailey, Idaho. Though they spend much time in Los Angeles.

William Hanna is from Melrose, New Mexico. He is the animator, director, cartoon artist, and producer who co-founded Hanna-Barbera with Joseph Barbera. He is considered to be one of the greatest animators of all time. His characters became a beloved part of American pop culture. This legend passed away March 22, 2001, at 90. He left behind a legion of programs like the Smurfs, Yogi Bear, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, and The Huckleberry Hound Show. Hanna and Barbera won seven Academy Awards and eith Emmy Awards. They are cultural icons and they characters have appeared in other forms of media like films, toys, and books. Their global audience extends over 300 million people and has been translated into 20 languages!

Neil Patrick Harris was born in Albuqerque, New Mexico in 1973. He has been active as a actor since 1979. Both of his parents were lawyers. He was enrolled at La Cueva high School in Albuquerque, where he is said to have been active in school plays and musicals. He was also an honors student and graduated in 1991. Freddie Prinze, Jr. also went to the same school, but was three years behind Harris. Harris has been nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award. His work includes shows like Doogie Howser, M.D., How I Met Your Mother, Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle, Starship Troopers, Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, and many others.

Conrad Nicholson Hilton was born in San Antonio, New Mexico in 1887. He was educated at the New Mexico Military institute, at St. Micheal’s College, it is now called the College of Sante Fe. He also went to the New Mexico School of mines, which is now called New Mexico Tech. He has many accomplishments in his lifetime. Personally, he had three wives and four children. He was married to Mary Adelaide Barron from 1925-1934. Together they had three sons: Conrad, William, and Eric. In 1942, he married Zsa Zsa Gabor, together they had one daughter Constance Francesca Hilton, who is the only child to be born to any of the famed Gabor sisters. He and Zsa Zsa divorced in 1946. After that he married Mary Frances Kelly in 1976 and she became his widow in 1979. Hilton died January 3, 1979, in Santa Monica, at the age of 91. He died on natural causes. He was buried at Calvary Hill Cemetray in Dallas, Texas.

John Denver was born in 1943, in Roswell, New Mexico. His last name was actually Deutschendorf. Denver, achieved success as a popular folk, pop, country, and pop folk singer. He was also an actor, singer, songwriter, poet, activist, instrumentalist, and writer. He could play guitar, keyboards, and the fiddle. He was one of the most popular acoustic artists of the 70s in terms of record sales. He recorded, released and wrote, many of the 300 songs. Some of his most famous tunes were Take Me Home, Country Roads, Rocky Mountain High, Thank God I’m a Country Boy, Annie’s Song, Sunshine on my Shoulders, and Calypso. He was killed on October 12, 1997, when the aircraft he was piloting crashed just off the coast of California at Pacific Grove. He achieved much in his life including doing humanitarian work, winning Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, Country Music Association Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, Emmy Awards, and other achieved recognition.

Al Unser was born in Albuquerque in 1939. He is the second of three men to have won the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race four times, the fourth of five to have won in consecutive years. He is also the only person to have both a sibling (Bobby) and a child (Al Jr.) as fellow winners. He has won two championships in 1983 and 1985. His last race was in the 1993 Indianapolis 500. He was active in the racing world from 1965-1993. He had a Champ Car career with many other successes as well.
