EVP Software: The Best Software Programs for Analyzing Ghost Voices

Software Programs

Your First EVP Recording

Once you get your first EVP recording you will need to use some EVP software to analyze that ghost voice that you just captured. But which software is the best and how much will it cost? It depends on how in-depth you wish to get with the whole process, and how much money you are willing to shell out on software- if any.
If this is indeed your first ghost voice caught on tape, your emotions are probably running rampant and your excitement may be at an all time high. After the initial shock is over, your next thought will be about how to upload your EVP to your computer so you can share it with other people.

Free Software For EVPS

If you do some basic Internet searches you can find some great software that won’t cost a thing. One free EVP software program is Audacity, an Open Source program with many features in it. Since it is an Open Source program, it continues to be updated so check back with the website often for newer versions. I have used Audacity for over a year now and just love the simplicity of use and the extra features it has like noise reduction, a magnitude of filters, the ability to change tempos, speed and more. If you want to record at home or with a laptop, simply plug in an external microphone to your computer, go into the Audacity program and click on project, and then new stereo track. Once the screen opens, you simply hit the red record button and you will be recording directly into the program.

If you are uploading from an existing audio recorder, you would use a connector cable for the go-between from your recorder to your computer. The process is the same as above only you would hit ‘play’ on your audio recorder. You can upload hours of recording time, or seconds. I like to upload one hour at a time, then analyze. When I am done, I upload the next hour, and so-forth.

Less Expensive Software Programs

If you want to spend a little money on an EVP software program but don’t want to spend a lot right off the bat, you can go with a lower-priced version or try a demo of something before you decide to purchase it. Acoustica is an audio editing program with full features that can be used for different purposes. They have a trial version available for evaluation, and a few different prices depending on which version of the program you wish to purchase.

Goldwave is a professional audio editor without the professional price that usually comes attached. For around $45.00, you can have this audio program that states it’s “a top rated, professional digital audio editor. You can download a fully-functional evaluation version before you go ahead and buy it to see if you like the features and ease of use.

Go For For The Gusto

If you have tried your hand at the free and lower-priced software that can be used for EVP editing, you might want to take a step up and really dig into something that is considered top-of-the-line software. Adobe Audition is one such program for those of you who want to go all out. Considered by many to be the best of the best, Adobe Audition has everything under the sun, and more. A full-featured professional program for uploading, editing and changing audio. Create your own radio commercials, fix flaws in recordings and more. Of course, you are looking for something to analyze your EVPS with, but you never know when you might want to try something new or expand in any way. You can get a free trial of Adobe Audition and the other audio editing programs that are created by Adobe before you go ahead and splurge by spending hundreds of dollars.

Something To Consider

While having the capability to analyze and edit EVPS is a wonderful thing and immensely helpful, just remember that the less you mess with a ghost recording, the better. Because of the nature of what a ghost voice is and how tough it can be to defend your evidence if it’s been overly-edited, it’s sometimes best to leave them alone. Most times the only thing I do to my recordings is filter out a bit of noise and that’s it. To me, less is more.
