English afternoon tea is very much alive in metro Denver. There are many shops around town that serve up a lovely tea party.

Denver is home to the House of Commons Tea, a traditional English teashop where customers can enjoy a cup of tea in a cozy atmosphere of the shop.

House of Commons also caters to all kinds of events, such as an afternoon tea, birthday parties, and wedding showers.

They serve food that is prepared fresh on the premises and they have over thirty varieties of tea that are delicious in both taste and aroma. Customers can stop in for a cup of tea or purchase a loose bag of tea to brew at home.

Afternoon tea is served daily with an assortment of finger sandwiches, miniature scones served with lemon curd, Devonshire cream, and jam, English biscuits, petit fours and a pot of tea of your choice. It’s $19.95 per person and $12.95 for children under 10.

Afternoon tea is served from 11 am to 5 pm. Reservations for afternoon tea are required for available seating.

The Brown Palace is a four-star hotel in the heart of downtown Denver. It has been an iconic structure since 1894. The Brown Palace serves afternoon tea everyday from noon to 4 pm.

There are three basic menus to choose from:

Space is limited so reservations are required.

The Brown Palace is a more expensive afternoon tea at $30 per person but it’s worth the price due to the hotel’s beautifully designed interior and rich history.

Louisville, Colorado

The Huckleberry is located in historic downtown Louisville, in a building that is 116 years old. The Huckleberry was voted best restaurant in the Louisville area and best brunch in Boulder. The Huckleberry has a wide assortment of tea to choose from that are available for purchase.

Afternoon tea at the Huckleberry serves your choice pot of tea accompanied by a three-tier tower of delicious pastries, and savory tea sandwiches, all baked fresh for party. Cost is $18.95 per person, and $10.95 for children under 9. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance.

The Huckleberry also offers two kinds of afternoon children’s tea party:

The Basic Children’s Tea Party for $10.95 per child includes a tier tower of children friendly pastries, tea sandwiches, elegant teatime settings with white linen, traditional Devonshire cream and lemon curd, and choice of children’s blend teas.

Premium Children’s Tea Party for $18.95 per child includes the basic children’s tea party but is a Teddy Bear tea or Doll tea with choice of tiny porcelain doll or teddy bear favors and a Teapot cake.

Boulder, Colorado

The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse was given to Boulder by the Mayor Maksud Ikramov as a token to commemorate their sister city ties with Dushanbe, Tajikistan. From 1987 to 1990, 40 artisans from several cities in Tajikistan created the interior decor for the teahouse. The Dushanbe Teahouse has 15 categories of teas to choose from and all can be purchased online.

The Dushanbe Teahouse serves afternoon tea from 3 pm to 5 pm every day. Tables are made in the English tradition of afternoon tea with three tiered towers of savory and sweet pastries, scones, artichoke purses, cucumber sandwiches, sweet cakes and the chef’s daily special, all made fresh.

It’s $18.95 per person and $10.95 for children under 9. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance to insure availability.
