Easy Ways to Use Fresh White Button Mushrooms

Delicous, Easy Side Dish, Italian Bread, Semi Homemade

Fresh white button mushrooms are delicious on salads or alone, but they are even tastier when used in a hot side dish, appetizer or main course. They are far healthier than the canned variety since the canning process literally drains the life out of foods. The flavor is processed away too. When they are fresh, they are flavorful, juicy and highly versatile. They can turn an ordinary dish into an extraordinary gourmet delicacy. Try these delicious ways to use fresh white button mushrooms, and enjoy hot appetizers, side dishes and more.

Easy Stuffed White Button Mushrooms

An extensive recipe is not required to make stuffed white button mushrooms. They are very easy to prepare. Select 10 large white button mushrooms with stems. Carefully remove the stems, and chop them very fine. You will also require a small amount of chopped fresh garlic, two chopped green onions, one-quarter cup of Italian bread crumbs, one-eighth cup of parmesan cheese, one tablespoon of butter and about one tablespoon of olive oil.

Begin by preheating the oven to 350 degrees. As the oven is heating, melt the butter in a small skillet. Saute the onions, garlic and chopped white button mushroom stems until they begin to soften. Allow the mixture to cool, and add it to the Italian bread crumbs, parmesan cheese and just enough oil to hold the mixture together. Add it slowly and carefully while mixing the ingredients.

Stuff the fresh white button mushrooms, and bake them in a greased pan for about 15 minutes. They should not be stacked. Extra stuffing can be sprinkled around them. Season the fresh stuffed white button mushrooms according to preference with ground sea salt and ground black pepper. They will make a delicious side dish or appetizer.

Enjoy Semi-Homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup

One of my favorite ways to enjoy fresh white button mushrooms is in cream soup, but it does not have to be prepared from scratch. I like to use fresh white button mushrooms with condensed soup, and it tastes just as good as or better than homemade varieties. Saute mushrooms and onions as directed above, and stir them into prepared condensed cream soup. If desired, add cooked diced carrots. Serve the soup with crusty French bread and butter, or top it with homemade seasoned croutons for a side dish or complete meal in minutes.
