Easy Healthy, Raw Dessert Recipes

Healthy Desserts

As a rawist, I’ve come to find my own ways of handling my sweet tooth with healthy desserts made from dried fruit and nuts. There are a number of great healthy desserts you can derive from the raw food realm. I thought I’d share a couple of my favorites. Not only are they my favorites but the 9 other people that live with me are not rawists and they ask for these sweet treats as well, so I think it’s safe to say that these healthy dessert recipes will please even the most standard American eaters.

Date and Nut Balls

This dessert recipe is a big favorite of mine not only for it’s great flavor, but also for being so quick and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

8 soaked medjool dates (soak for 30 minutes in warm water)
1 cup of your favorite nuts (soaked), I usually go with walnuts
1 ½ teaspoon of cinnamon
Dry coconut (for rolling the balls in)

Soaking the dates helps with creating moisture to bind the date balls. Combine all ingredients in a food processor with an S blade. Process on high for a few seconds, then scrape the food down that’s along the sides and repeat the process. Then roll in unsweetened dry coconut. Form 1 inch balls. Enjoy!

Raw Apple Pie

I know without a doubt that anyone that tries this pie will could never say anything but great things about it. It’s rich and decadent without the sugar and calories, plus it’s loaded with good nutrition.

Crumble Topping Crust

Ingredients

2 cups raw walnuts or pecans ( an equal part mix is good too)
½ cup unsweetened dry coconut
½ to 1 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
¼ cup celtic salt (it has more minerals)
1 cup organic raisins
3-4 pitted medjool dates

Process the first 5 ingredients with the processor until coarsely ground. Add raisins and dates until things begin to stick. Use this for a crust. Press half or a bit more of the mixture against a pie pan and create a crust. Save the rest to top the pie with when the filling is completed.

Apple Pie Filling

Ingredients

2 apples, peeled and sliced thinly
3 tbsp.fresh lemon juice
2 apples, peeled and quartered
¾ cups raisins (soaked in warm water for 20 minutes)
3 pitted medjool dates (soaked in warm water for 20 minutes)
½ tbsp. Cinnamon

Coat sliced apples with 2 tbsp lemon juice to retain color of apples, and set to the side. Place the remaining ingredients and 1 tbsp lemon juice in food processor. Process with the S blade until smooth. Remove from processor and combine this mixture with the sliced apples. Then, spread this mixture over the crust and sprinkle the remaining crumble type topping on top to finish the pie. All you gotta do now is eat and enjoy!

Healthy desserts are plentiful in the raw food world. I’m discovering that pleasing my hankerin’ for sweet stuff isn’t hard to satisfy! You’ll see why after trying these!
