Easy 4th of July Crafts for Kids

Summer is a great time for crafting and 4th of July crafts for kids are especially fun. July 4th is an exciting holiday and making a 4th of July craft can make the day even more memorable.

4th of July Craft: Patriotic Tempera Painting

Materials:

White construction paper, any size is good.

Black tempera paint (watered down so that it has a thin consistency)

Crayons

Old paintbrush

Newspaper

Directions:

1. Using bright colored crayons, draw a patriotic or 4th of July themed picture on to the white paper. Making sure to color heavily, the more pressure used on the crayons, the better the drawing will look.

2. Cover work area with newspaper and lay drawing on the newspaper.

3. Using the old paintbrush, paint the tempera over the entire drawing including the areas where crayon was used. The wax will resist the tempera paint and only the white areas of the paper will soak up the tempera paint. The bright colored crayons against the black paint make for a stunning July 4th kids craft.

4th of July Craft-Patriotic Flame

Materials:

12″ x 9″ piece of white construction paper

½ ” strips of red, white and blue construction paper or crepe paper ( approximately 21 strips and 20″ long)

Glue

Blue crayon

Stapler

Glitter (optional)

Directions:

1. Coloring the edges of the white construction paper with the blue crayon, you could also glitter the edge as an option.

2. Group 7 of the red colored strips together and staple to the corner of the plain white side of the construction paper. Next group 7 of the white colored strips of paper and staple near the red colored strips and proceed to do the same with the 7 blue colored strips of paper and staple near the red and white strips of paper.

3. Roll the construction paper from corner to corner and make sure to start at the corner where the strips of construction paper are stapled. Also make sure the blue colored edges are showing on the outside and the strips of paper are rolled on the inside.

4. This super easy 4th of July craft for kids is one that kids love to run around with at the 4th of July fireworks and pretend like they are participating in the fireworks show but in a much safer manner.

4th of July Craft: Pretend Noise Poppers

Materials:

Crystal Light type containers with lids

Dry beans

Red, white or blue tissue paper

Ribbon

Glue

Tape

Directions:

1. Using an empty plastic Crystal Light type container with a lid, fill with approximately 30 dry beans.

2. Glue the lid on to the plastic container. Allow time to dry.

3. Wrap the plastic container with red, white of blue tissue paper. You will need to layer the tissue paper so that the container does not show through. Make sure there is approximately an extra 3-4 inches of tissue paper on each side of the plastic container.

4. Gently gather the 3-4 inches of tissue paper at each end of the container and wrap a piece of tape snugly around the gather paper. Tie a ribbon around the tape.

5. This July 4th kids craft is a favorite especially with the little ones as they love shaking their noise popper and listening to the beans make the rattling sound.
