E-6000 – the Best Glue on Earth

Gorilla Glue

As a collage artist, glue is essential. But, anyone can use and appreciate E-6000 Glue. My dad has used it on wood projects, glass, and more. My mother has used in for household repairs.

My favorite kind is E-6000 Medium Viscosity – Clear. Unlike Gorilla Glue, which also works well, it dries crystal clear. (Gorilla Glue dries a brownish color.) Since my artwork is collage, clear is very important. E-6000 is a waterproof, flexible non-flammable, paintable glue. It also holds up well in the cold, unlike glue from a glue gun. The glue from a glue gun, after it dries, is subspectable to cracking and coming off in cold weather. I’ve had more than one project come apart after a car ride in cold weather.

E-6000 works on wood, metal, glass, fiberglass, cermics, masony and concrete. It also works well on leather, rubber, vinyl and most plastics. I’ve even used it in very, very thin layers with card stock. I slap some on my surface and smear a very thin layer with an old credit card, and place the card stock on the surface. It will never ever move again. Be cautious though, too much will cause the cardstock to warp. Alas, you cannot use E-6000 on Styrofoam.

The directions on the tube state, not only will the glue hold up in the cold weather, but it can be used on items that are subject to vibration. If you get E-6000 on fabric unintentionally, the only way to remove it is to cut it off. For example, if you drop a blob on the carpet, you are going to have to snip the area out. (This is not fun.) Your best bet is to layer your work area with either newspapers or a plastic drop cloth.

I would recommend that you use E-6000 with care. It does have a strong oder, and will give you a headache if you do not have a door or window open. My only problem with the tube, is that it is so strong, if any of the glue gets on the stem of the tube, or in the cap, good luck getting it off. I’ve glued more than one tube closed. When new and unopened, the closure is very strong, but the tube cap has a point to pierce thur the closure.
