The Ancient Greeks saw dreams as either prophetic or warning in nature. In dreams, imagery tends to be symbolic, representing incidents, present problems and events that are yet to be. Scenes, people and objects may not necessarily represent themselves. It is important to remember that some symbols might mean one thing to one person and another to someone else therefore when interpreting dreams, if the interpretations I suggest of the symbols don’t ring true for you, spend time meditating on the symbol to work out what your dreams might mean.
Receiving Letters in Dreams
There are a number of ways in which communication takes place. – Letters, ‘phone calls, gossip, newspapers etc. I will therefore try to cover as many as possible, to help you understand your own particular dreams.
In general, to dream of receiving a letter is a sign of unexpected news. But, what kind of letter might you have received in your dream? An anonymous letter could warn you of a possible, unexpected injury. Letters which tell of unpleasant news, could be indication of the stumbling blocks which litter your future path, or ill health. Good news in a letter, however, suggests that you have many things to be grateful for.
To receive a letter from a child is indication of your future prosperity, but if it is a business letter which lands on your doormat, you must use caution in all your affairs.
Colours of Ink in Dreams
The colour of the letter and ink will also have special meanings. Did you see red, in your letter? This insinuates separation as a result of jealousy. You will, nonetheless, have it in your power to avoid this by discreet action.
A love-letter written on coloured paper suggests unhappiness in love, or business. Blue ink implies constancy in love and a bright and happy future.
Sealed envelopes represent difficulties. If, however, you open the envelope in your dreams and remove the contents, some current anxieties will be smoothed away. Luck and good fortune is suggested if you see yourself mailing an envelope, whilst buying envelopes suggests change for the better.
To dream of receiving a parcel suggests that you are about to be pleasantly surprised by the return of someone who has been absent in your life. If, in your dream, you are carrying a parcel, this suggests that you may have to carry out some unpleasant responsibilities.
Receiving a telegram in your sleeping visions, is a more positive sign than sending one, but basically, each warns you that caution is necessary in the future. To send a business telegram is indicative of a lull in business but to receive a business telegram suggests that you are about to receive money that you have earned in the past.
Telephones in Dreams
Now, if a telephone appears in your dream, beware of strangers who may cause some confusion in your life. Success in your career is denoted, if you are making a telephone call. While to receive a ‘phone call suggests possible cancellations or postponements ahead.
To hear good news in a dream suggests good fortune. Bad news however warns you of possible trouble to come.
If, in your dreams, you are reading a newspaper, changes in the future will be for the best. Daily newspapers are indication of gossip around you. Dreams of newspapers generally suggest that you must be cautious in your dealings or your reputation could suffer.
Dreams in which you see, or use a pen, tells you that you will soon receive news about absent friends. If, however, it is a pencil which is a feature of your dream, you are advised to pay attention to who gave you this pencil. For it could be that you are about to be separated from this person.
