Dove Energy Glow Lotion Review

Self Tanners, Tanning Lotions

A month ago I started tanning at our local town tanning salon. It was great getting to go tan and relax and feeling like I had a healthy glow on my skin. Shortly after though, the tanning salon cut back on their hours that they were open, which did not coincide with the times that I could go.

On a recent shopping trip to Walmart I decided to see what these gradual tanning lotions, that I had heard so much about, had to offer. I chose Dove Energy Glow lotion because it was around $6.00 after tax, and the other lotions were fairly higher in price. Not wanting to break the bank on a bottle of lotion, I thought that this one would be a good one to try.

Dove Energy Glow is presented nicely in a 8.5 oz. gold container. There was nothing noticeably special about the packaging, but I knew that Dove was a great brand. On the front of the lotion bottle it tells us that “Dove Energy Glow gradually builds a beautiful summer glow.” and that it is a lotion with subtle self-tanners. You have two shades to choose from: fair to medium skin, or medium to dark skin.

Since I had tanned for a month, I wasn’t my usually pale self, but I wasn’t extremely tan yet either, so I chose the fair to medium skin. I felt this shade would be best because I did not want to look grossly tan or orange.

Once I got home I turned the bottle around to read the directions on the back. Dove also included this message for users: “Dove believes having a fresh, sun-kissed look should not be reserved just for the summer. That’s why Dove developed Energy Glow Beauty Body Lotion with subtle self tanners. It leaves your skin soft and smooth while gradually enhancing and evening out your natural skin color, giving you a beautiful summer glow year round.”

Directions: For best results, apply daily as you would your normal body lotion. Smooth on evenly, allowing several minutes to dry and watch the color build up over one week. Wash hands immediately after application.

So, after reading this I decided to use the lotion that very same day. After getting out of the shower and drying off I immediately opened the top of the lotion and squirted some into my hand. It was a pearly cream color with a hint of bronze in it. The smell was a fruity smell, but seemed more like the smell of regular tanning lotions that you would use before getting in a tanning bed. I rubbed the lotion all over, using it like I normally would any body lotion. It went on smoothly and did not feel greasy at all.

Even though there is also a Dove Energy Glow for your face, I didn’t think it would hurt to use the body lotion on my face since it was not overly greasy and I have dry skin. So I went ahead and smoothed it over my face also.

I loved how the lotion made my skin feel super moisturized, but not greasy. I wasn’t too pleased with the smell, I thought it could have been a little better. It is not a terrible smell, I just don’t personally “Love” it.

After applying Dove Energy Glow for 3 days, I could already tell a difference. My skin looked great, and not orange or blotchy like regular home self tanners do. And by the end of the week I was extremely happy to see that I looked the part for the summer, not overly tan, but with a nice healthy looking tan.

I recommend this to anyone who does not have time to tan or get out in the sun for a few hours, that want a healthy looking glow about them. I will continue buying Dove Energy Glow from now on.
