Dog Friendly Hotels in Southern California

Coronado, Dog Friendly, Dog Lovers, Southern California, Three Dog Night

If you are a pooch lover like me, you are probably often looking for places that are dog friendly. As an dog owner with canines that are over 40 pounds, I often find that many hotels only accept dogs that are 25 pounds or under. When a place claims they are dog friendly, I think this should apply to all dogs. Thus, here are three dog-friendly hotels that are welcoming to furry friends, big and small.

Loews Coronado Bay Resort

4000 Coronado Bay Road Coronado, CA 92118 (619) 424-4000

Coronado is a great place to stay with your dog. There are many boardwalks to take your dog on a walk. There’s also a fantastic dog beach where dogs can go leash free. Loews truly welcomes dogs. They took both of my dogs. One weighs 80 pounds and the other is a hyper border collie. In addition, they have a VIP pet program. Upon arrival, we were given two bandanas for the dogs to wear and asked if our dogs wanted a special dinner. The hotel also has water bowls and treats if you want. This hotel is very nice and clean; you would never notice that any dogs ever stayed there. When we stayed in the late winter, we had a poolside room and it cost a little over $200. Loews Hotels charges $25 per stay to clean up after your pet. A little pricey but worth it for a special occasion.

Residence Inn La Jolla

8901 Gilman Drive
La Jolla,
California 92037 858-587-1770

My husband and I stayed here for the first night of our honeymoon. It’s nice and comfortable but nothing fancy. There are refrigerators and stoves so that you can cook in your room. Rates are in the mid $100s to low $200s. This place also takes dogs for $100 extra. The front desk gives you a little magnet so that housekeeping will not come in and cause unnecessary barking. La Jolla has several dog parks and many beaches. Try the dog park in Doyle Community Park at 8175 Regents Road or Capehart Park which is located at the corner of Felspar and Soledad Mountain Road in La Jolla. Even though dogs need to be leashed, there are also many nice beaches. Some beaches don’t allow dogs on the beach between certain hours.

Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel

1700 Ocean Avenue Santa Monica, California 90401 (310) 458-6700

This is another Loews hotel but this time in Santa Monica. As said on their website, “owners receive a detailed brochure with information on hotel pet services.” If you need a dog bed, leash or bones, the staff will be happy to accommodate you. I like this hotel because is very close to Third Street Promenade. My pooches love to walk down this closed off street of shops and restaurants. There are many street performers too. Additionally, there are many many dog friendly restaurants in Santa Monica. Stay here in the fall. Rates are closer to $300 and it’s still very warm in Southern California.
