‘Destination Truth’ and ‘Ghost Hunters’ Have Much in Common

Digital Recording, Ghost Hunters

At first glance “Destination Truth” and “Ghost Hunters” appear to be very different types of television shows. Since one deals with learning the truth about legends and folklore and the other deals with a hunt for the paranormal, even the basic premise of each show seems mutually exclusive. However, the shows have a bit more in common than most people think. More importantly both can be a very entertaining hour spent in front of the television.

The Cast

Joshua Gates and the cast of “Destination Truth” make watching the investigations something seem like an insane travel channel special gone very wrong. Jason, Grant and the rest of the “Ghost Hunters” bring that same element of everyday people doing special things to the table week after week. Both casts seem like people a fan could have an interesting conversation with. These are people who have literally seen it all.

The Gear

Both shows use special equipment in pursuit of their goals. While night-vision cameras are a staple for both groups, the multicamera display is also in regular use. To add another element of familiarity to the shows, both can be found using digital recording devices during EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) sessions to record sounds that are not heard by the human ear at the time.

The Locations

Both shows regularly head to interesting locations, which is something that adds an element of excitement to both. Fans have no idea where the cast and crew will end up next. The pursuit of the truth and paranormal require some flexibility when it comes to where and when, and both shows do a great job of spreading their teams around the U.S. and the globe. While “Ghost Hunters” is probably a bit more domestic than “Destination Truth,” getting a glimpse of new places is always a special treat.

The Fun

Perhaps the strangest part of “Destination Truth” and “Ghost Hunters” is that the cast actually enjoys what they are doing. Gates, Jason, Grant, Ryder and rest are always uttering one-liners that instantly put everyone around them at ease. Everybody on both shows seem to know how lucky they are, which is a rare treat on reality television because nothing seems forced. That relaxed atmosphere translates to viewers, and helps both shows win fans.
