Define Halitosis–Taking a Positive Approach to a Permanent Solution

Bad Breath, Halitosis

When we define halitosis, it is simply the sad state of having bad breath. It is a common ailment shared by all. All of us at sometime or another have experienced bad breath. Sometimes we were painfully aware of it and other times we were not.

For example, a woman went to the hospital one late evening to give birth to her baby. When she checked in and went to her hospital room, Pitocin was given to induce labor, and her contractions began to speed up into the next morning. Before she knew it, she had dilated and the birth of her baby was imminent. However, before she knew it, an oxygen mask was strapped on, the doctor was summoned, and she was instructed to breathe into the mask and push the baby out. All of this was done before she unfortunately had the chance to leave her bed to brush her teeth. As a result, with each push and deep breath, she had to breathe in her own fumes as they ricocheted off the oxygen mask and came back at her with each sickening breath. Judging from the expression on her face, the bystanders who were there to witness the birth thought she was in severe pain from pushing out the baby; however, it was later found that she was in agony at having to smell her own breath. Such is life. Some things cannot be helped.

Chronic halitosis can be a crippling problem. It can taint your memories of special events in life that should have been good memories, and can even hurt your chances for advancement in your career. Whatever path you follow in life, having fresh breath is winning part of the battle. You may not excel in some aspects you feel are important, but having fresh breath, a nice smile, and good oral hygiene (and of course the necessary skills) can really make a difference in some cases. No one wants to work with or associate with a person who is completely unaware of his bad breath as it can make any day to day task very unpleasant.
