Dead like Me and Ellen Muth

Acting Auditions, Mensa

I am a big fan of the television show, Dead Like Me, which is why I chose to write about the star from the show – Ellen Muth. She played a grim reaper dealing with the afterlife, and she played the part to perfection.

If you haven’t already seen episodes of Dead Like Me, you are really missing out on an original story idea involving the afterlife.

Ellen Anna Muth was born on March 6, 1981 in Milford, Connecticut. Her father is Dr. Erich Muth, an optician, who has also penned many books, started his own charity The Erich Muth Scholarship, and who has had an entire museum named after him.

Her mother Rachel Muth, helped her daughter’s career by taking her to acting auditions. By the age of 10, Ellen was studying to be an actress. Muth’s first ABC TV appearance was in 1994, on All My Children, where she played Laura. By 14, she was seen in Stephen King’s Dolores Claiborne. After that, Muth took to the stage in an off-Broadway production of Nine Armenians. Soon after she took time off from acting to complete school.

Muth was also in Rain (2001), A Gentleman’s Game (2002), and her first starring role in 1999 film, The Young Girl and the Monsoon. Her TV credits include Law & Order (1990), Two Against Time (2002), and The Truth About Jane (2000). She also took part in the miniseries Superfire (2002) and Only Love (1998).

Ellen Muth, is probably best known for her role as Georgia Lass, in all 29 episodes of Dead Like Me (2003-2004). Dead Like Me was a Showtime series that is now in syndication. I, as one of many, would love to see more (new) episodes of Dead Like Me. I still hope to see the series resurrected, though the chances are slim now that years have passed. However, Dead Like Me: Life After Death, was made into a movie and came out just this year, so it could happen! The movie was great, but not as great as the series. If you haven’t already checked it out you must do so at once!

Since then, Muth, did a voice over for the animated short Tofu, The The Vegan Zombie. She also starred in Jack N’ Jill, and then directed her very first film, Coffee, Tea or Me (2008). She is currently involved in another voice over role in animation.

Awards that Muth has received include Best Supporting Actress award for Dolores Claiborne at the Tokyo Film Festival. In 1999, she won the American Film Institute Best Actress Award for The Young Girl and the Monsoon. In 2004, Muth received two nominations for Dead Like Me.

Ellen Muth is also a member of Mensa and Intertel. Internel, a high IQ society who are in the top one percent of IQ. While Mensa is the oldest (and largest), best known high-IQ society in the world. This non-profit organization is open to people who score at the 98th percentile or higher.

Ellen Muth is a fascinating person, to say the very least!
